With the holiday season well underway, Jeremy Renner is celebrating Hawkeye's one-year anniversary with an adorable holiday card. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series finally gave Renner's hero his own story, finding him attempting to enjoy a Christmas trip with his kids in New York, only for Kate Bishop to accidentally draw the ire of the Tracksuit Mafia by donning his Ronin costume, putting a target on both his and her backs. Largely inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja's comic run of the same name, Hawkeye scored largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, with praise directed towards the chemistry between Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, as well as the lower-stakes story being a change of pace for the MCU.In honor of the show's one-year anniversary, Jeremy Renner took to Twitter to share an adorable Hawkeye holiday card. Will Renner's Hawkeye Return To The MCU?

Though Hawkeye served as a springboard for multiple new characters into the MCU, many audiences have begun wondering whether Renner's hero has a future in the franchise. Much like Black Widow before it, the Disney+ show was noted by many as being less of a solo story for Clint Barton and more as an origin story for Bishop, who went on to take on the mantle of Hawkeye in the comics and would become a member of the Young Avengers, as well as the main team and the West Coast Avengers. Hawkeye even featured Florence Pugh's Yelena returning fresh off of her MCU debut in the Scarlett Johansson-led film, leaving some to believe the show would be Renner's swan song.

However, both Clint and Kate would survive the events of Hawkeye, with the former finding some closure with Yelena over the death of Natasha Romanoff, while the latter exposed her mother's crimes and would join Clint in celebrating Christmas with his family. With him still alive and not officially retired, the door is open for Renner to return in any number of MCU projects in the future. Speculation has ranged from an unannounced Young Avengers, in which his seniority with the original team could establish him as a leader, to an appearance in the now-confirmed Thunderbolts movie, given his relationship with Yelena, who will be on the film's roster, and serving as the team's leader in the comics.

The most likely candidates for Renner's MCU future are that of the Echo Disney+ show and the two confirmed Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Considering Hawkeye served as a launchpad for Alaqua Cox's antihero, and will see the returns of Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, Echo makes the most sense for Renner's character to appear, potentially in an effort to check in on the young woman whose life he almost ruined. While audiences await word on Renner's future, they can celebrate Hawkeye's one-year-anniversary with the series streaming on Disney+.
