Is the Tyler Perry created soap opera The Haves And The Have Nots returning for season 9? Tyler Perry made his movie debut playing his most famous character Madea in 2005's Diary Of A Mad Black Woman, which has since seen him become a major brand name. He writes, produces and directs the majority of his own work, which includes movies like the long-running Madea franchise or hit shows like If Loving You Is Wrong. He occasionally pops up in other movies too, including a fun supporting part in David Fincher's Gone Girl.
In 2012 Perry signed a deal with OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network) to produce TV content for the network. In addition to creating If Loving You Is Wrong and bringing Why Did I Get Married? spinoff For Better Or Worse to OWN, he's also behind one of the network's longest-running soap operas. The Haves And The Have Nots debuted in 2013 and contrasts the lives of a trio of families, with the Harrington and Cryer clans being rich while the Young family are working class, with Candy and Hanna Young acting as maids to the Cryers.
The Haves And The Have Nots is unashamedly soapy and melodramatic, with numerous affairs, attempted murders and actual murders taking place each season. While the show hasn't received great critical notices, Angela Robinson's turn as the delightfully catty villain Veronica Harrington has been praised, with the cast also including actors Peter Parros, Tika Sumpter, Tyler Lepley and John Schneider. Gavin Houston Confirmed The Haves And The Have Nots Season 9 In 2019
Gavin Houston - who plays Veronica's son Jefferey on the hit soap opera - revealed during an interview with Metro Weekly in 2019 for the show's sixth season that The Haves And The Have Nots season 7 and 8 were already shot. He also revealed the crew was soon returning to start work on The Haves And The Have Nots season 9, which speaks somewhat to Tyler Perry's ruthlessly efficient work ethic.
The Haves And The Have Nots Season 8 Appears To Be The Final Season
Despite Houston confirming The Haves And The Have Nots going into production in 2019, it appears plans have changed. Tyler Perry's other OWN shows have already come to an end, as in 2017 he worked out an exclusive deal with Viacom which kicked in from May 2019.
In November 2020 Angela Robinson gave a New York Post interview about The Haves And The Have Nots season 8, with the headline and article itself describing it as the final season. If that's the case, it's likely OWN took episodes shot for both season 8 and 9 and combined them. OWN hasn't officially confirmed the series is ending, but with Perry's departure and its ratings dipping in recent seasons, it appears season 8 will be the final series.
