Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor released a new teaser image in the form of a newspaper ad, and included a real phone number that you can call. The Haunting of Bly Manor is the follow-up series to Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, which aired in October 2018. Hill House was met with critical acclaim and thousands of passionate, scared fans, who cannot wait for the next season in the horror anthology series. The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on Henry James’ 1898 novel, The Turn of the Screw, and though its narrative is not directly related to Hill House, many members of the cast and creative team will be returning for the second season, which will be even scarier than the first.

The Haunting of Hill House terrified audiences with its unsuspecting jump scares, ominous atmosphere, stunning cinematography, hidden ghosts in the background, and the dysfunctional family it revolves around. From what Netflix has confirmed about Bly Manor so far, it is very likely that the second season will follow in the same vein as the first, especially with the floating faces in the water that can be found on the official poster and the ghostly children shown in the set photos. The production of the show was met with several delays due to the coronavirus, but Bly Manor’s release is reportedly not going to be hindered

Bly Manor does not have an official release date yet, but Netflix has been slowly posting promotional artworks for the show online. Most recently, the Haunting Twitter page sent out a help wanted newspaper ad, asking for a “live-in nanny” for the Bly Manor and featured a real-life phone number that viewers can call. The newspaper page seems to be underwater, sticking to the setting of the lake that the first official poster presented. Take a look at the eerie newspaper ad below.

If you’re brave enough to call the number, you will be greeted by a voicemail recorded by the children of the Windgrave family, telling you that their uncle will be conducting interviews for the nanny job in five days. While the promotional image seems simple, the voicemail might be hinting that more information for the show will be made public in five days. The lake in front of the manor has also already appeared twice in official photos, so it will probably be important to the story. Furthermore, the other ads on the paper are offering mirror installation services and requesting lake maintenance specialists, both of which could be clues to what Bly Manor will feature.

Despite its slightly slow plot progression, the Haunting’s first season did what most other adaptations of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel couldn’t -- it focused on the internal dynamics of the characters and the drama within the family, making the true horror of the show the people rather than the spirits. Nevertheless, following up to such a widely beloved series could prove a challenge to the show’s creators, especially as the second season focuses on a similar narrative that also puts children at the forefront. Based on what’s been disclosed so far, however, The Haunting of Bly Manor will tell a compelling story with beautiful and frightening visuals, and twist the tale in a fresh and unconventional way.
