Here’s every The Haunting of Bly Manor cast member returning for Mike Flanagan’s upcoming seven-episode Netflix horror series, Midnight Mass. Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House dismantled the clichéd tropes of supernatural horror and reinvigorated it, which led to the Netflix show garnering critically-acclaimed status. Other than Hill House and Bly Manor, Flanagan has also helmed The Shining’s sequel Doctor Sleep, along with Gerald’s Game and Hush.

Inspired by Henry James’ 1898 cornerstone horror novella The Turn of the Screw, The Haunting of Bly Manor is set up as an anthology horror series, with the return of several Hill House cast members like Victoria Pedretti (Dani), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Peter), Carla Gugino (The Storyteller), and Kate Siegel (Viola). Bly Manor received mostly positive reviews, owing to its carefully crafted backstories and a genuinely chilling ghost story that brims with heart.

Flanagan created and directed Midnight Mass, which is out September 24, 2021 on Netflix. Midnight Mass revolves around an isolated island community that experiences strange and unexplained mysteries after the arrival of Father Paul (Hamish Linklater). Not every actor appearing in Midnight Mass is new to a Flanagan project, with many of the limited series' stars returning from The Haunting of Bly Manor. Here's a run-down of every cast member who will appear from the previous installment of the horror anthology series, including Rahul Kohli.

Kate Siegel

Kate Siegel in Midnight Mass Trailer

Kate Seigel, who played Viola Willoughby in Bly Manor, will be returning as Erin Greene in Midnight Mass. There aren't any character details about Erin, but Seigel's character in Hush does write a book called Midnight Mass, which makes things all the more interesting for the upcoming horror series. In episode eight of Bly Manor, Seigel's Viola is revealed as the Lady in the Lake, who is central to Bly’s history of trapped souls, after which, a flashback to the 17th century unravels the tale of intense love and jealousy between two sisters, Viola and Perdita, which was inspired by James’ short story, The Romance of Certain Old Clothes. After her death, Viola becomes the Lady in the Lake and is trapped on the grounds for eternity, doomed to wander into the manor in search of her daughter, and kill whoever gets in her way.

Also, having collaborated with Flanagan (who also happens to be Siegel’s husband) on multiple projects in the past, she also appeared in Hill House as Theodora Crain, the proverbial middle child among her four siblings, Steven, Shirley, Luke, and Nell. Siegel also starred in several films written and directed by Flanagan, including Oculus (Marisol), Hush (Maddie), Ouija: Origin of Evil (Jenny), and the adaptation of Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game (Sally).

Henry Thomas

Kristin Lehman and Henry Thomas in Midnight Mass

Henry Thomas will be returning in Midnight Mass, having played the roles of Hugh Crain and Henry Wingrave in Hill House and Bly Manor, respectively. Wingrave is an uncle of the children, Flora and Miles, and is introduced in episode one when he interviews Dani for the position of au pair at Bly Manor. Wingrave’s absence and unwillingness to visit Bly even during severe situations is shrouded in mystery, which later turns out to be the case of unresolved guilt, which he attempts to assuage by delving deep into alcoholism. Apart from appearing in both installments of The Haunting, Thomas has worked frequently with Flanagan, appearing in Ouija: Origin of Evil (Father Tom), Gerald’s Game (Tom), and Doctor Sleep (Jack Torrance). In Midnight Mass, Thomas will play Ed Flynn, though there isn't any information on what role he'll play in the series.

Rahul Kohli

Rahul Kohli in Midnight Mass

Kohli stars as Owen Sharma, the resident chief at Bly Manor, and romantic interest to Hannah Grose. Owen’s time at Bly is split between caring for his mother, who is suffering from dementia, and preparing meals for the Wingrave children. Kohli will appear in all seven episodes of Midnight Mass, in which he'll portray Sheriff Hassan. Apart from this, he has starred in the comedy-drama TV series, iZombie, and voiced the character of Scarecrow in the animated Harley Quinn TV series on HBO Max.

Alex Essoe

Essoe Wingrave in Bly Manoras Charlotte

Essoe will also be returning in Midnight Mass after starring in Bly Manor as Charlotte Wingrave, mother to Miles and Flora, and the previous lady of the manor. While Charlotte is married to Dominic, she has an affair with his brother, Henry, which leads to the birth of Flora. The older Wingraves die in an accident, which propels the need for an au pair for the children at Bly Manor. Essoe has previously worked with Flanagan in Doctor Sleep, assuming the role of Wendy Torrance, previously played by Shelley Duval in Kubrick’s rendition of The Shining. She has also appeared in the 2020 horror Death of Me and the noir thriller, Midnighters.

Cast Members From Hill House Returning To Midnight Mass

Apart from cast members of The Haunting of Bly Manor returning to Midnight Mass, three characters from Hill House will also be returning to Flanagan’s mini-series, namely, Annabeth Gish, Robert Longstreet, and Samantha Sloyan. While Gish and Longstreet play the Dudleys, the caretaker couple at Hill House, Sloyan played the role of Leigh Craine, wife to Steven, the oldest of the Crain siblings. Gish has been sighted in eminent TV series’, such as The X-Files and Sons of Anarchy, along with Flanagan’s Before I Wake. Additionally, Longstreet appears in Doctor Sleep as Barry the Chunk, and Sloyan assumes the role of Sarah in Hush.
