Writer/director Adam Green introduced a new horror slasher into the genre with Victor Crowley (played by horror icon Kane Hodder), the vengeful spirit known as Hatchetface who starred in the Hatchet trilogy before his own self-titled film. Crowley is known for his gruesome and gory kills and unending threat as a repeating spirit, doomed to be monstrously reborn again every night.

Victor Crowley died a tragic death after he was targeted by cruel children on Halloween, though it was his own father (also played by Hodder) who accidentally killed Victor while trying to save him from a burning house. Victor Crowley's deadly killing spree is focused around his swamp home, so some of his intended victims have managed to escape his powerful clutches.

Shyann Crowley

Hatchet Franchise - Shyann Crowley

It's important to mention one of Victor Crowley's first enemies Shyann Crowley (played by Kathryn Fiore), Thomas Crowley's first wife who was dying of stomach cancer when she discovered that Thomas and her nurse Lena (played by Erika Hamilton) were having an affair.

When Lena became pregnant with Victor, Shyann cursed the unborn child so that he would be born deformed. Lena died at the first sight of her child, and Thomas raised his son alone and isolated before his death led to Victor Crowley's recurring haunted killing sprees.

Tyler Hawes

Hatchet Franchise - Derek Mears as Tyler Hawes

2013's Hatchet III brought a lot more firepower to the battle against Victor Crowley when the Louisana S.W.A.T. team got involved, led by Derek Mears' hulking Tyler Hawes. Mears had previously played Jason Voorhees and was just one of many horror cameos in the series.

While fans initially thought Hawes might finally give Victor Crowley a worthy physical confrontation, he was very swiftly and horrifically killed in his first encounter with Hatchetface, who rips his spine and skull out through his stomach (Mears also played Predator) before Hawes could even land a punch.

Ben Schaefer

Hatchet Franchise - Joel David Moore as Ben

Joel David Moore starred in 2006's Hatchet as Ben, a heart-broken tourist on a spontaneous but unwanted trip to New Orleans. He soon finds himself lost in the swamp with a night tour group as they are hunted by the supernatural Victor Crowley.

While Ben (or anyone) didn't have many successful physical confrontations with Crowley, he was the one who attempted to cover him with gas and burn him. Ben was even almost one of the film's last survivors until the shocking final moment. Moore hilariously reprised his role briefly in Hatchet III before ultimately dying - for real this time.

Trent

Hatchet Franchise - R.A. Milhailoff as Trent

Trent was a hunter played by R.A. Milhailoff, who also previously starred as the titular killer in 1990's Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III. Things ultimately didn't go so well for Trent in 2010's Hatchet II, though he did put up a good fight against Crowley.

The character also has an additional connection to the lore of Hatchetface as it was revealed that he was one of the cruel children on Halloween who torched the Crowley home, making him one of the few responsible for Victor's eternal unrest in the first place.

Reverend Zombie

Hatchet Franchise - Tony Todd Reverend Zombie

Horror legend Tony Todd (CandymanNight of the Living DeadWishmaster) first appeared in 2006's Hatchet as a former voodoo priest turned swamp tour business owner Clive Washinton A.K.A. Reverend Zombie.

Zombie hires a team of hunters to go into the swamp with seemingly altruistic motives, though it was soon revealed that he hoped to mistakenly lead the aforementioned Trent into Crowley's swamp so they would be killed and end Crowley's curse. Reverend Zombie even attempted to choke Victor when he attacked, though he was ultimately no match for Crowley.

Amanda Fowler

Hatchet Franchise - Christine Williams as Amanda Fowler

The Hatchet franchise continued revisiting stars of horror when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2's Christine Williams joined the cast as Amanda Fowler, an investigative blogger who had spent years trying to prove Victor Crowley's existence.

Hatchet III (directed by B. J. McDonnell) brought Fowler along as the police and S.W.A.T. attempted to unsuccessfully take out Victor Crowley. Fowler's investigations into Crowley's origins and curse provided the franchise's best weapon against Crowley, though her head was violently ripped off before it was used on him.

Andrew Yong

Hatchet Franchise - Parry Shen as Andrew Yong

Parry Shen is the repeating spirit of the Hatchet franchise, appearing in every film even though he frequently met his untimely demise. He first appeared as Shawn in Hatchet and then his twin brother Shawn in Hatchet II before appearing as paramedic Andrew Yong in Hatchet III.

Yong was able to survive Crowley's attacks by hiding while everyone with him was viciously murdered, and then returned for 2017's Victor Crowley as the star of the film. He took a more proactive role in keeping himself and others alive, managing to survive both Crowley encounters.

Rose

Hatchet Franchise - Laura Ortiz as Rose

2017's Victor Crowley introduced a group of filmmakers that included crew member Rose (played by Laura Ortiz) who was helping her best friend Chloe make a movie about the Crowley murders in Honey Island Swamp.

However, when Victor Crowley made his inevitable reappearance and began his killing spree, Rose quickly outlived the rest of her crew. She worked together with the survivors of a plane crash that brought a romantic interest and Crowley survivor Andrew Yong to the swamp. Together, they took the fight to Crowley and managed to stay alive.

Dillon

Hatchet Franchise - Dave Sheridan as Dillon

Andrew and Rose's survival is partially due to the efforts of Dillon (played by Dave Sheridan), who was a swamp tour host and part-time actor that was also hoping to get a part in the new Crowley film. Dillon had quite a few heroic acts that earned the attention of Rose as Crowley trapped the survivors in a crashed plane near his swamp home.

In the final stand-off, the other survivors hilariously failed in their attacks against Crowley, leaving Dillon to hurl himself at the supernatural monster and send them both through the plane's turbines (fixed by Dillon earlier) and saving the day.

MaryBeth Dunston

Hatchet 2 - Tamara Feldman and Danielle Harris as Marybeth

The only character to survive multiple encounters with Victor Crowley is MaryBeth Dunston, who was originally played by Tamara Feldman in Hatchet before she was replaced by Scream Queen Danielle Harris for the sequels.

MaryBeth's father Samson (played by Robert Englund/Freddy Krueger) was one of the children in Halloween masks responsible for the death of Victor, and MaryBeth was brought to Crowley's swamp after her father and brother were killed. MaryBeth not only managed to survive multiple encounters with Crowley, but she brutally killed him twice in the process.
