Hasbro Reveals Marvel SDCC Exclusive: The Collector's Vault

San Diego Comic-Con tends to bring with it some pretty impressive exclusives, especially on the toy front. Last year's Comic-Con saw everything from a Star Wars Black Series playset of Jabba's Rancor Pit to a special edition Transformers combiner set of Devastator. NECA even produced an exclusive Friday the 13th action figure of Jason's mom. Now that this year's Comic-Con is around the corner, some of the exclusives that fans can look forward to are starting to come to light.

One exclusive that Marvel Comics fans will likely look forward to is Hasbro's The Collector's Vault. Part of the Marvel Legends Series of toys, The Collector's Vault features the enigmatic Collector and some of his most prized possessions (most of which were seen in his possession in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well).

The set features a 3.75-inch scale figure of The Collector, along with figures of Lockjaw, Cosmo, Moon Boy, and Howard the Duck. Additional items are included in the set as well, representing powerful artifacts from the Marvel universe. Full details of the set are included in Hasbro's press release:

(Ages 4 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $69.99/Available at Booth #3329 at Comic-Con International in San Diego)

The most extraordinary museum of intergalactic treasures is inside THE COLLECTOR’S VAULT! This impressive 3.75-inch scale MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES set features fan-favorite Marvel Comics characters and mysterious ancient artifacts, such as ZODIAC KEY, CASKET OF ANCIENT WINTERS, and WAND OF WATOOMB. THE COLLECTOR’S VAULT set includes HOWARD THE DUCK and introduces MARVEL’S THE COLLECTOR, MARVEL’S COSMO, LOCKJAW, and MARVEL’S MOON BOY figures to the MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES. Figures feature detailed articulation, sculpting, and deco. Includes 5 figures and 3 artifacts. MARVEL THE COLLECTOR’S VAULT LEGENDS SERIES 3.75-Inch Action Figure Set will be for sale at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. Following the convention, a limited number will be available on Canadian fans can also purchase the figure set during Fan Expo Canada in September.

One of great things about SDCC exclusives like this is that limited runs like this give fans a chance to own figures of characters that they might not ever see otherwise. While the newfound popularity of Howard the Duck might make him a candidate for inclusion in some upcoming Marvel toy line, it's unlikely we'd see characters like Lockjaw or Moon Boy outside of possible build-a-figure collections (and even then, Moon Boy would be a stretch). The downside, of course, is that you have to either make it to SDCC, Fan Expo Canada or be one of the lucky few to snag the set online before they sell out if you don't want to pay reseller markups on eBay.

Though some fans don't like the fact that a lot of exclusives end up being resold, for those who actually get the set for themselves it will make a great addition to their collection. The Collector's Vault is a bit out of left field, but it's just the sort of weird that a lot of Marvel collectors enjoy.
