Harvestella, a new game from Square-Enix, is a blend of classic JRPG elements with a farming simulator. The player's character can gain access to a variety of jobs throughout the game, each with their combat specialties. At first, however, only one job will be available: the Fighter.

The Fighter specializes in melee combat, and is the character's default job. There are a variety of skills that the player can learn to maximize the job's effectiveness. Each can make even the most basic-seeming job in Harvestella feel rewarding. Fighters can acquire abilities that essentially act like one of the better jobs in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin: the Tyrant, which allows players to imbue weapons with elemental abilities. However, in this case, Fighters are only able to access fire abilities from the job.

Fighter Skill Choices in Harvestella

Using Magic Attacks in Harvestella

Blaze is the earliest skill a Fighter can learn in Harvestella, only costing 10 JP. It is a slashing and fire attack, which gives players some elemental attack capabilities. This is also the skill Fighters must take to unlock the tree of skills, since the game doesn't really open up choices on new abilities until learning four Fighter skills. This ability can be improved to Blaze II in the same job tier for 600 JP. Crescent Slash gives the character a ranged slashing attack that can be used to engage foes from afar. This requires Step to be learned and costs 200 JP.

The next skill should work toward is Enhance Normal Attack. This ability, which costs 450 JP and requires Crescent Slash to be learned, upgrades base attack damage by 10%. While a small increase, this can later be stacked with the Tier 2 Fighter Skill Enhance Normal Attack II for an additional 10% damage. This ability costs 1,800 JP.

When the player reaches Tier 2 Fighter Skills, they can gain access to augmentations to their existing toolkit. This will help players add some unique character to the job, while not having to worry about unlocking a new job via a challenging boss fight, as they would with the Hellblade in Bravely Default 2, or switching to another job. However, one of the more valuable skills is Reduce Physical Damage, which will reduce physical damage taken by 20% and costs 1,500 JP. This will help sustainability in dungeons.

Flame Tongue is another slashing and fire attack, but has the added benefit of dealing damage over time to the enemy. In addition to this, Increase Fire Damage, which costs 1,000 JP will increase the amount of fire damage dealt by the character by 20%. This can be beneficial to pick up as early as possible since many of the Fighter's abilities are based on using this element.

While many of Harvestella's other jobs may be enticing, even the default Fighter job can provide players with a variety of gameplay tools for engaging enemies, and is a fairly easy-to-learn job, much like unlocking and using FFXIV's Paladin job. It has both melee and ranged options, damage over time effect, and can increase its own defense passively.
