Harry Potter: 10 Worst Things Ron Weasley Did

Ron Weasley might be a part of the iconic trio from the Harry Potter books, but he definitely wasn’t always the most loyal friend of the three of them. While all fictional characters who are interesting have their strengths and weaknesses, it’s always interesting to look at popular fictional characters and see the areas where they weren’t so great. While Ron might have provided a lot of humor and support to Harry and Hermione, he could be jealous and rude at times, too.

Seeing as throughout the books Ron and his friends were only teenagers, many of their mistakes are understandable. However, there were definitely times Ron could have one better. These are the ten worst things Ron Weasley did in the Harry Potter series.

10 STEALING THE FORD ANGLIA TO FLY TO HOGWARTS

This moment can be somewhat forgiven because of the fact that Ron was only twelve years old and clearly had no common sense. While Harry and Ron thought flying the Ford Anglia was the logical thing to do, it was a really ridiculous move. They should have just waited for Ron’s parents to show up to the car and gotten help from them after they couldn’t get onto the Hogwarts Express platform. Instead, they stole the car which put their own safety at risk and ended up putting Arthur Weasley’s job at risk, too.

9 WHEN HE GOT JEALOUS OF HARRY BECAUSE OF THE TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT

While props have to be given for Ron being a supportive friend most of the time, his behavior towards Harry during much of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was unfair.

While some of his feelings of jealousy might be understandable, he didn’t believe Harry when Harry said he didn’t submit his name into the Goblet of Fire. He also went along with people who were talking badly about Harry.

8 REFUSING TO BREAK UP WITH LAVENDER BROWN

Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Ron’s entire relationship with Lavender Brown wasn’t a great one. The entire reason he started dating her was to make Hermione jealous which is a really unfair thing to do to both Hermione and Lavender. He ends up being pretty cowardly when he refuses to end the relationship even though he doesn't really like Lavender. Instead of being honest, he kept ignoring her and waited until she got angry he was spending so much time with Hermione and broke up with him instead.

7 HIS BEHAVIOR AT THE YULE BALL

Ron’s behavior at the Yule Ball was horrible overall. First of all, he took Padma Patil and then spent the whole time ignoring her which is just rude. He and Harry both spent the whole date sulking and ignoring their dates because they wanted to be there with other girls.

Then, he started a fight with Hermione because Hermione went to the ball with Viktor Krum. He was definitely taking his anger with himself out on Hermione and his jealousy and it was completely unfair.

6 WHEN HE SAID HERMIONE DIDN’T HAVE ANY FRIENDS AND MADE HER CRY IN THEIR FIRST YEAR

Ron’s treatment of Hermione over the years was pretty poor at various times. While they might not have been friends yet before the troll incident on Halloween, he was pretty mean when he told other people that she didn’t have any friends because she was a know it all.

This isn’t an unforgivable offense, but it is an example of Ron not being very kind.

5 HIS OVERALL LACK OF TACT

Ron is definitely not the most emotionally intelligent person out there. He is often rude and ends up running his mouth when he should stay quiet. He makes rude comments to Hermione a lot of times over the years, and he also says judgemental things about many other people including Luna. Much of this behavior seems to come from his own insecurities, but it's definitely not cool that he can be so tactless and uncaring.

4 WHEN HE GOT UPSET WITH DEAN AND GINNY DATING

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ron sees that Ginny is dating and kissing Dean Thomas, and he gets upset about this. While this might just be him being a protective brother, the truth is that Ginny having a boyfriend isn’t any of Ron’s business.

The fact he gets annoyed and angry by this is really immature. When Ginny points out that he’s partially upset because he’s the only person who hasn’t kissed anyone in their group, Ron lets this partially goad him into rushing into the relationship with Lavender Brown.

3 NOT CARING ABOUT S.P.E.W. OR QUESTIONING HIS OWN PRIVILEGE IN GENERAL

Ron is a good example of how we can all be blind to things around us when we have grown up thinking they are normal. Ron often doesn’t realize many of the issues that exist in the wizarding world as they just seem normal to him. When Hermione points out the problems with having house-elves kept as slaves, Ron thinks this is ridiculous. To be fair, Harry doesn’t seem to have that much of a problem wit hit either. It’s clear that Ron could do with having a little more sympathy for those less fortunate than him.

2 HIS PROBLEMS WITH JEALOUSY OVERALL

This is not one instance but a personality issue that Ron has throughout the books. Ron is continually jealous of people who have what he wants. He is jealous of Harry and the money he has and the attention he gets and doesn’t seem to realize that he himself has many things that Harry has wished for such as a loving family. He also gets jealous of anytime Hermione shows any interest in any other guy, even though he never makes his feelings for Hermione very clear.

1 WHEN HE DESERTED HARRY AND HERMIONE

This moment can’t be blamed completely on Ron seeing that he was under the influence of the locket Horcrux, but, he still is partially to blame. During Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are traveling from place to place to stay hidden while trying to figure out how to find and destroy the Horcruxes. Ron ends up destroying them and goes to stay with Bill and Fleur leaving Hermione to fend for themselves. Of course, he does come back and try to make up for this mistake.
