Ralph Fiennes shares his rather unique concept for a Harry Potter Voldemort spinoff. Having now enchanted audiences for more than 20 years, the Harry Potter films not only propelled their young stars to major fame, but also established the series as one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time. First released in 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone introduced audiences to Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter, the boy who lived, and his destiny to some day come up against the dark Lord Voldemort, who had left him orphaned as a baby.

Despite having appeared in a number of standout roles throughout his career, Fiennes, for some, is best known for his role as Lord Voldemort throughout the Harry Potter films. After first appearing as the terrifying villain in 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Fiennes played the character throughout the rest of the series. With the Harry Potter series having come to its epic conclusion more than 10 years ago, audiences have long been calling for a revival of the much-loved series, with Fiennes having previously discussed his desire to play Voldemort again, sharing that he holds an affection for the character.

In a recent interview with The List to discuss his latest project The Forgiven with co-star Jessica Chastain, Fiennes once again discusses returning to the role of Lord Voldemort. When asked directly whether he would play the character again, he offers his not-so-PG-13 concept for a Voldemort spinoff, which would focus on the villain's relationship with his new wife, casting Chastain in that role. The actor then offers some interesting ideas as to how magic would play a role in the pair's relationship. Check out Fiennes and Chastain's discussion below.

Fiennes: I think Voldemort should reappear and there should be Voldemort's Bride, played by Jessica.

Chastain: Fine. But then would it be a loving marriage?

Fiennes: I think it would be. It would be very complicated. It would be obsession. They would hate each other. Then they would come together with incredible spells. They would have amazing sex, and then they would have their traumatic separations. They'd use their magic to manipulate each other and fall in love with each other.

Chastain: It sounds very exciting. Probably not appropriate for children, but who cares?

Fiennes: Who cares? Right.

Fiennes' unique idea puts Voldemort at the forefront and offers a different look at the character than fans of the Harry Potter franchise are used too. Having been the key antagonist in the Harry Potter movies, Voldemort has since become somewhat of a pop-culture staple, thanks to his eerie, skeletal looking appearance, which makes him one of the more instantly recognizable characters from the franchise. In a celebration of Fiennes' career as a whole, a video recently imagined Voldemort in movies like Schindler's List and The Grand Budapest Hotel, with some ridiculously funny results.

It's fair to assume that Fiennes likely gets asked about returning to the role of He Who Must Not Be Named on a rather frequent basis, so it's certainly hilarious to see the actor put a not-so-serious spin on his answer this time around. Despite the somewhat bizarre nature of Fiennes' idea, there are likely many who would be interested in a spinoff that explores Voldemort's character further, plus the actor's choice of Chastain as his co-star for this project would also likely be well received. After a rough Fantastic Beasts box office performance, the future of any further Harry Potter spinoffs is yet to be decided, although it's fair to say that, regardless, Fiennes idea may be one to sit on the shelf for a while.
