Harry never got to experience a relationship with his motherand Molly Weasley was all too happy to make up for that by taking up the role for herself. In the Harry Potter books and movies, she called herself his mother, gave him gifts, threw him birthday parties, and provided him with unconditional love. These actions would often move Harry to the brink of tears and made Molly a perfect mother figure for fans to adore.

However, not every Harry Potter fan is on team Molly. Some believed that she had so many faults as a mother and person, that she was downright unlikeable. Fans on Reddit discussed what it was that they did not like about her, and while these opinions were unpopular among Redditors, the examples given don't exactly show Mrs. Weasley in the best light.

She Sabotaged Harry and Sirius's Relationship

When Sirius was revealed to the rest of the Order as Harry's Godfather, Molly did not entirely approve. She felt that Sirius didn't set a good example as a father figure, and often scolded him for trying to tell Harry more than he needed to know.

Redditor Mocochang_ was especially annoyed by this, stating that she "tries to get between Harry and Sirius," as well as implying that she cares more for Harry than Sirius. Her constant intervention in their relationship puts Harry in an uncomfortable spot and results in Harry feeling conflicted about Sirius's perspective of him.

She Tries To Control Everyone

Molly has a very big family, and she really runs the show. She is effective at managing her family, but her tendency to micro-manage might go a little far from time to time.

"She wanted to impose a profession onto Fred and George and diminished them at every turn," Mocochang_ said, pointing out that she also "forced Charlie to cut his hair when he was vehemently against it." Controlling her young children is one thing, but she seems to not understand how to back off when they grow up and start lives of their own.

She Is Too Judgy

Molly loves a good piece of gossip and often talks about things she has read in the fictional magazine called "Witch Weekly." This magazine seems similar to the gossip tabloids that exist in the muggle world, with a variety of often false stories told about celebrities.

When Rita Skeeter publishes a piece in this magazine that falsely reports that Hermione is playing with Harry's heartstrings, Molly immediately turns her back on Hermione. Redditor Crys885 found this to be despicable, especially considering she "[knew] Hermione for 3 years and [spends] enough time w her to assess her character."

She Is Smothering

It is understandable that Molly would be protective of her children. It is revealed in Order of the Phoenix that her greatest fear is losing one of her children, including Harry. With the climate of the wizarding world, it is no wonder that she would want to keep her family close.

However, like in the case with Harry and Sirius, Molly can be "kinda smothering," as pointed out by Redditor Curseofablacklion. Her children, even the adult ones, often feel exasperated by her hovering, causing some of them to avoid her when possible. Since Molly loves Harry like a son as well, this smothering tendency extends to him.

She Is Loud

Molly is very unlikely to let a situation pass her by without sharing her opinion. When her children make a decision she wouldn't agree with, she is sure to let them know and give them a good long lecture about it. This treatment continues on to her husband, and even other members of the Order.

Redditor Sleepyr0b0t wasn't sure why so many Redditors were sharing that they hated Molly Weasley, asking "is [it] because she is loud?" While they may not feel this is a bad thing, it certainly has a lot to do with people's negative opinions of her.

She's Not As Interesting As The Other Weasleys

The Weasleys are not always taken seriously by the wizarding community, especially when it is under so much influence from anti-muggle officials. However, many members of the family are downright impressive. Some work in the government, others are genius inventors, while other Weasleys are lucky to be alive with all the risks and adventures they take.

"I don't hate her by any means," said Redditor Nerdlife314, "but out of the [all of them] she's probably at the bottom for me." Molly may not be as terrible as some think, but she may not be very interesting either.

She Treats Arthur Poorly

Arthur is a kind and lovable man. He has proven himself to be a reliable wizard to turn to in times of trouble and has been a father figure to Harry like Molly has been a mother. He has an endearing fascination with muggle inventions and artifacts but Molly is only ever frustrated by his unique hobby.

Redditor StockInjury7221 feels that Molly "disrespects her husband," by only ever ridiculing his special interest. While Arthur doesn't seem to mind, Molly certainly could be a little nicer about it.

She Is Terrible To Fleur

Fleur fell in love with Bill while she was learning English while working at Gringotts. The two became engaged, and Fleur spent a lot more time at the burrow so she could get to know his family.

During her time there, it became very clear that Molly could not stand Fleur. Fleur can be difficult to live with, but Molly's opinions of her were largely judgemental. "She thinks Fleur is only interested in Bill bcz of his looks," says Curseofablacklion. Molly is eventually proven wrong, but she can't take back the mean comments or slicing stares.

She Shows Favoritism

One of the biggest criticisms of Molly is that she shows favoritism among her seven children. Her children are often stacked up against each other, with Ron Weasley's worst fear being identified as a disappointment compared to his brothers.

"She didn't even remember [Ron's] fav colour and what kind of sandwich he hated," Curseofablacklion pointed out, "but she remembered Harry's eye color." This was referring to the fact that Molly continued to make Ron maroon sweaters, forgetting that he despises the color, but makes Harry green sweaters that she believes will bring out his eyes.

She Gets In The Way Of Harry's Victory

Molly was never thrilled at the idea of Harry, Ron, and Hermione taking off on a quest to bring down Voldemort. She urges Harry to tell her the confidential mission Dumbledore had given them and becomes frustrated when Harry refuses. She then decides that if she can't convince them to stay, she will just make it impossible for them to plan their trip.

"Who do you think you are?" asks Redditor Vicmol81, "they are going, it's agreed and they need to make plans." Molly cared about their safety, but by trying to get in their way, she was putting the entire wizarding community at risk.
