With so many amazing characters showcased within the movies, there are plenty of familiar faces that HBO could look to use, whether it's set before or after the events of the movies. With the major names unlikely to be attached, the focus should be spent on giving some of the movies supporting characters, giving them more of a spotlight this time.

Lily & James Potter

Lily and James Potter obviously have a major part to play in the movies due to the fact they're the parents of Harry. However, because they die before the movies begin, they're only given supporting roles in flashbacks or when Harry can see them to provide advice.

However, because they're mentioned so often, it would be interesting if the television show was to focus on the past, making Lily and James the lead characters. It would link the show and the movies nicely and allow people to learn a lot more about them and their own personal stories.

Peter Pettigrew

Peter Pettigrew is a very intriguing character because of the major betrayal of his friends, opting to choose Lord Voldemort as the person he wants to follow. Following his journey in a little more detail would certainly be interesting.

He could be a great bridge between good and evil within a television show, highlighting the behind-the-scenes work and dark magic that took place during Voldemort's initial reign of terror. Highlighting how he recruits people and how other characters reacted would certainly be fun to see.

Viktor Krum

One option that the show could take is by showing a totally different side of the wizarding world. Everyone knows all about Hogwarts, but what about some of the other famous wizarding schools? It would open up the world even more, and featuring Viktor Krum could allow that to happen with a familiar face.

He's an intriguing character who has a major presence around other wizards, which is why he'd be a great character to feature. Showcasing his school and new ideas of teaching would be fresh, plus Viktor's Quidditch career is something that could be just as fun to watch as well.

Nymphadora Tonks

Nymphadora Tonks from Harry Potter

In the books, Nymphadora Tonks is one of the most exciting and interesting characters, but in the movies, things didn't really play out that way. Tonks took a backseat role which is a shame, as she is a character with a great personality that could have been very fun in a major role.

That is why she should be brought back to be part of a possible Harry Potter television series. Exploring her relationship with Remus Lupin in further detail, and the abilities that she has as a witch would be great.

Professor Horace Slughorn

Professor Horace Slughorn is incredibly quirky and unique, and that could be great to explore in further detail within the potential television show. Seeing his life unfold and learning how he became the incredible wizard he is in the movies could be interesting.

Slughorn is notorious for 'collecting' impressive young students, and that is a story that could be of great interest, possibly looking at a young Tom Riddle in a lot of detail as well, with Slughorn's relationship with him being a crucial point.

Neville Longbottom

Neville Longbottom proved to be one of the most popular characters within Harry Potter, and he is someone who a show could easily be based around. He's a perfect lead character that has a very emotional backstory, can provide great comedy all while being a brave and strong wizard as well.

It would be fascinating to see Neville's journey after Hogwarts in a little more detail, as he is someone that audiences wanted to know more about once the movies were over. His personal journey would be great to explore, and would certainly put a lot of attention onto the show.

Cornelius Fudge

The Ministry Of Magic is something that is perfectly set up for a television show, as it adds political twists and extra elements of drama, which is something that would every interesting within a television show aspect.

Exposing the secrets and the inner workings of The Ministry would be very engaging and something that is totally different from the movies, which is going to be crucial for this to succeed. Cornelius Fudge is one character that would be perfect to explore in more detail within this, as he is someone who only plays a supporting role in the movie franchise.

Bellatrix Lestrange

While Bellatrix Lestrange might have been a villain, that doesn't mean that she couldn't be a focal point of the television series. She's an incredibly charismatic and interesting character who also has huge powers, which would make her a lot of fun to feature in more detail.

Being able to explore Azkaban and what happens inside the prison in more detail would certainly be a lot of fun. It's an area that is spoken about but not highlighted in too much detail within the movies, and seeing that happen in the show would give a fun, darker edge to the series.

Aberforth Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore was one of the lead characters within the Harry Potter movies, but his brother, Aberforth, was not. He only gained a supporting role, although he did pop up to help Harry and play a crucial part in the war against Lord Voldemort.

However, he would be an intriguing character to explore in further detail. The Dumbledore family is an incredibly interesting one that has a lot of complex history, with some deep issues between them. Exploring that in further detail is something that would certainly be intriguing, especially with a character that wasn't shown too much.

Professor Minerva McGonagall

Professor Minerva McGonagall was an excellent character within the movies, but she was always kept in a supporting role. However, she could very easily be the central focus of a Harry Potter television show, potentially going back to the past to see a younger version of the character.

She's one of the most powerful witches within the movies and someone who has no shortage of confidence, with her sassy and hilarious one-liners keeping her students in line. But seeing that in more detail is something that could be very interesting.
