Harry Potter: 20 Things Hermione Did Between Deathly Hallows And Cursed Child

Of the three main characters in the Harry Potter universe, Hermione has to be the most important. Yes, Harry’s the actual protagonist, but without Hermione, he would’ve died in The Philosopher’s Stone itself. When the trio had been on the run in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hermione’s patience and resourcefulness had been the only thing keeping the group together. Her shrewd planning also helped them infiltrate the Ministry and Gringotts.

Suffice to say, Hermione was super important in the seven-novel Harry Potter series. Although Hermione had initially been introduced as a high strung know-it-all girl, she blossomed into the caring, friendly version of hers that proved important in almost every occasion. Most of her accomplishments were highlighted because the Hermione we followed was aged between 11 and 18. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ epilogue showed us a grown-up Hermione who was now a mother of two children and a long-time Ministry of Magic employee. J.K. Rowling had kept the epilogue ambiguous on purpose, with her original intention being to make things beautifully vague. Now, over a decade later we know a lot more about what happened in the nineteen years since Voldemort’s demise and beyond.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, while being something along the lines fan fiction writers think of, is considered canon to the series and it brought a number of new facts to Hermione’s life after Deathly Hallows.

So, if you’re curious about what Ms. Granger was up to between these two stories, here are 20 Things Hermione Did Between Deathly Hallows and Cursed Child.

20 She Found Her parents

Hermione confunds Parents

Immediately after taking out Voldemort, the heroes all attended to the most immediately pressing matters. While Ron was most likely busy tending to Fred's funeral, Hermione went on and traveled over to Australia to locate her parents.

You'll recall that she had obliviated them to the point they believed they had no daughter at all and wanted to reside in Australia. With the threat on their life averted, Hermione lifted the spell and brought them back. It must not have been easy considering that her parents could have been anywhere in the entire country, but Hermione was bright enough to have figured their location out.

19 She Dated and then married Ron

Once she'd gotten her life with parents back in order (it probably didn't take much time considering she hardly ever spent time with them in the first place), Hermione returned to her personal life and officially began dating Ron.

The two had shared a kiss in the Battle of Hogwarts but that was hardly an officially getting together occasion. It's a shame we never saw the progression of their early dating life as Ron must have made it entertaining to watch what with the definite blunders he would've made understanding the new course their relationship had taken. Regardless, the two ended up married and remained together.

18 She Had Two Children

Wedded bliss was followed soon after with the happiness of children arriving for Ron and Hermione as they became to parents to not one, but two wizarding kids. Unlike Harry, they didn't stick to keeping unoriginal names based on deceased people and went with naming their children Rose and Hugo Weasley.

These children became the first non-purebloods in the family, a fact that no Weasley ever had any problem with. Being a mother is something you can't learn even if you read hundreds of books, so it was interesting how Hermione came about accustomed herself to this challenge in life.

17 Became a lawyer

You can try to change the world all you like by your actions, but those aren’t enough to really make a difference in the legal system. The Wizarding laws were most likely made by a bunch of old windbags in the Middle Ages and these always favored the purebloods with no consideration given to Muggle-Borns or other creatures.

Once Hermione had done as much as she could for the progression of these beings in her original department, she truly set out to change the world by joining the legal department as the Deputy Head. This set the stage for everything that would ultimately change about Wizarding laws.

16 Progressed House Elves Rights

Hermione was needlessly obsessed with House Elves, according to everyone around her. She founded S.P.E.W, in which the only members were Ron and Harry; both of whom had no interest to be there at all. Hermione’s attempts to make House Elves’ rights heard fell on deaf ears, even on those who were supposed to be her friends.

When she became employed in the Ministry, however, Hermione finally had her shot at making things right. And right she did make them as Hermione was a pioneer in identifying rights for magical creatures, especially House Elves. Not bad a for a person whose original group only consisted of two unwilling friends.

15 She Went back to Hogwarts

Harry Potter Hogwarts

Knowing Hermione, it must have been awful for her to have been on the run in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, partly due to her education being effectively stalled. The year they spent bringing down Voldemort ended up costing her a year of Hogwarts, and in pure Hermione fashion, she set it right when she could.

Unlike Ron and Harry, Hermione delayed entering a career in the Ministry and returned to Hogwarts for her seventh and final year. She passed with flying colors in all her N.E.W.T exams, something that helped her immensely in her future career.

14 Had a Forgettable wedding with Ron

Leave it to Ron to mess up his own wedding day. Expectations must have been high from both parties for their nuptials and it was a day they would never consider forgetting – except that Ron did forget it.

According to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Ron and Hermione’s wedding was an excuse for the former to get wildly intoxicated. Ron indulged so much that upon his own admission he was too intoxicated to remember any part of the day. If he really was that far gone, there’s no way Hermione didn’t notice this at the event. This kind of makes it sad to think their wedding wasn’t the perfect one we’d all been hoping it would have been.

13 She Made Harry and Ginny Godparents

With Harry's status as the best friend of both Ron and Hermione, and Ginny's status as the sister of Ron, it was far too close-knit for Harry and Ginny to not be Godparents to Ron and Hermione's children. This turned out to be the case as Harry and Ginny were godparents to at least Rose Weasley.

It's not certain if the couple fulfilled this responsibility for Hugo Weasley as well but Rose being the first-born of Ron and Hermione made it clear who their first choice for godparents were.

12 Translated the Beedle the Bard

Tales of Beedle the Bard from Harry Potter

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was written in runes as seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Hermione, being the only one of the trio to have studied Ancient Runes, was able to read through the stories to decipher the clue to the Deathly Hallows. While we only heard the tale of the three brothers in Deathly Hallows, there were a lot more stories stored within the book.

After she graduated from Hogwarts, Hermione set about to make others learned in the important stories and she did this by translating The Tales of Beedle the Bard from Runes to English. Her translation was published in 2008.

11 Changed pureblood laws

Draco and Lucius Malfoy in Deathly Hallows Part 1

Being a Muggle-Born was something Hermione took great pride in as the years went by. Hermione even claimed she was "Mudblood and proud", showing how little she cares for abusive terminology. Once she was in a position of power and influence, Hermione took matters into her own hands and used her position as a wizarding lawyer to greatly alter pureblood favoring laws.

Under the new conditions, the benefits purebloods enjoyed were brought to equal lengths to wizards of all kind; it didn't matter if you were Muggle-Born or pureblood anymore. Wonder just how much this stung someone like Lucius Malfoy.

10 Attended 2014 Quidditch world cup

The Dumbledore’s Army’s time together was cut painfully short in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after Cho Chang’s silly friend ratted them out to Dolores Umbridge. Once they had defeated Umbridge, there was no need for the group to meet again and it was dissolved until the Battle of Hogwarts.

However, there was a reunion of sorts at the 2014 Quidditch World Cup final where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, Hannah Abbott, and Luna all attended together. Hermione was the only person among the group who didn’t support either team playing the final. The reunion was then sensationalized in Rita Skeeter’s Dumbledore’s Army: The Dark Side of the Demob.

9 Her life was printed on chocolate frog cards

Chocolate Frog Card From Harry Potter

After finishing up on all matters related to Voldemort, Hermione and her friends went about to changing the world as we'd known it. We know of Hermione's adventures as the seven novels of Harry Potter, but in-universe all the characters' achievements were individualized and they were known to people in their own regard.

Hermione’s upbringing and life were then printed onto Chocolate Frog cards, a great honor in the wizarding world as this guaranteed she would become a household name. The first time we heard of anyone famous printed on a Chocolate Frog card was immediately when Harry boarded the train in The Philosopher’s Stone, so you can picture just how prestigious this was.

8 She Became an A-list celebrity

Becoming a household name doesn't just mean you're well known, it makes you a complete celebrity. Every person whose life was detailed on  Chocolate Frog cards was promoted to this status as they became common knowledge to everyone.

Hermione's celebrity was on display during the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where passersby and their children all stared and pointed at her along with Harry and Ron. This also makes their children seem like dummies considering that they should've been well accustomed to this kind of response since they were born, yet were surprised at witnessing it happen.

7 She Got marriage counseling

We saw Hermione and Ron argue consistently over the course of the novels. This was morphed into a tension over how they really were attracted to one another, but the two had argued even when they'd been children. It was apparent Hermione and Ron were annoyed by one another to a certain degree. Unfortunately for them, their arguing was a problematic matter and the two needed to head off to marriage counseling to avoid any event of a divorce.

J.K. Rowling herself stated that Ron’s issues with confidence and self-esteem didn’t evaporate away after the war and this was a contributing factor to problems in his and Hermione’s marriage.

6 She Revolutionized the ministry

Hermione Wrong Courage

The Ministry of Magic had been the foil for the Golden Trio for the duration of their time at Hogwarts. The flip side was that the Ministry was the majority employer for the Wizarding World, making the three reliant on it for jobs. So when people found out the trio had eventually become employed there, the assumption was it was out of necessity rather than choice.

This isn’t true as the three ended up “revolutionizing” the Ministry. Hermione was front and center in this movement, what with her role as a high-ranking lawyer bringing her access to power and influence. The Ministry was corrupt no more, and became a progressive figure.

5 Faced Further Rumors Due To Rita Skeeter

Rita Skeeter Hermione Harry

Rita Skeeter had targeted both Harry and Hermione when looking to make sensational news in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The reporter concocted fake relationships and drama such as Harry, Hermione, and Victor Krum being involved in a supposed love triangle. Hermione was made out to be the bad guy pulling both poor boys along. This controversy died out by the end of the Triwizard tournament, but Rita’s attempts to discredit Hermione resurfaced much later in the future.

Skeeter reported Ron had been too entranced by Veela women during the 2014 Quidditch World Cup to make notice of his own wife, who seemingly elbowed him in the ribs to stop embarrassing her.

4 Kept touch with Hagrid

HP Hagrid Old

Out of all the characters the Harry Potter series brought to us, Hagrid was most definitely the purest of them all. There was no awful bone in his body and he always played the loyal friend role to Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Once they had left Hogwarts, the three obviously couldn’t indulge in visits to Hagrid as they once frequently used to do. But, as the epilogue in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows informed us, Hagrid had invited Albus Potter to tea just as he had once done Harry. There’s no way only Harry remained in touch with Hagrid, signifying both Hermione and Ron also were a permanent fixture in Hagrid’s life.

3 Becoming a Godparent Herself

Much like what we mentioned earlier with Harry and Ginny playing the roles of Godparents to Ron and Hermione’s children, the same worked out the other way round too. It seems as if some kind of pact went around this group where they just had to name each other godparents seeing that Ron and Hermione filled this part for Harry and Ginny’s kids.

Albus and Rose were the same age, while James was only a year older, which made all children a close-knit group. Perhaps the parents realized this would be a definite possibility and made each other the godparents.

2 Removing Dementors and working closely with Kingsley

Harry Potter: 20 Strange Details About Dementors’ Bodies

One of the aspects that showed us how lax and corrupt the Ministry had been before it was ultimately revolutionized was the presence of Dementors in Azkaban prison. Contrary to popular belief, the Dementors weren’t employed by the Ministry; they simply had an agreement to guard the prison as it was easy to access the food supply.

However, keeping people in proximity of creatures that literally suck your soul should be a crime against humanity, and this was how it was seen by Hermione and Kingsley as the two took away the Dementors from Azkaban. Hermione became Kinglsey’s trusted employee during this time, and ended up succeeding him as Minister of Magic.

1 Held multiple roles in the ministry

Hermione’s career in the Ministry wasn’t the straight path you might be thinking she followed. We’ve already established Hermione worked to progress the rights of House Elves and underprivileged creatures, but this was done when she wasn’t a lawyer; her role was in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

It was only once she left this department did she become the Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, kickstarting her career as a lawyer. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child then took this a step further and made Hermione the Minister of Magic (which sounds too fan-fiction-y).
