The last Harry Potter book may have come out 11 years ago, but the magical universe continues to stay alive thanks to the incredible fan base that the series has.
The last Harry Potter movie in the main series came out in 2011, which tied up Harry Potter’s story. There is, of course, the ongoing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films, but those take place many years before Harry Potter attends Hogwarts.
After Harry and his friends defeated Voldemort in The Deathly Hallows, readers and viewers were greeted to an epilogue that took place 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione have obviously aged since defeating Voldemort, but fans are introduced to the next generation of Hogwarts students since the trio had children of their own.
Both the book and movie series ended with their children getting onto the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 3/4. Fans were left wondering what was next for Harry Potter - or at least they were until Harry Potter and the Cursed Child made its debut on July 30, 2016 in the Palace Theatre in London.
This gave fans a brand new Harry Potter story and answered some of the questions that fans had for years. J.K. Rowling has also been incredibly open with fans answering any questions they may have about Harry Potter’s life after The Deathly Hallows.
Since Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the only actual content that takes place after The Deathly Hallows, there are massive spoilers ahead for the play.
Without further ado, here are the 20 Things Harry Potter Did After The Deathly Hallows.
He Became The Head Of Magical Law Enforcement
With Harry Potter’s incredible talents, people were itching to know what Harry Potter did with his life after he defeated Lord Voldemort.
Thanks to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, fans finally found out Harry’s career choice. Harry not only becomes a worker at the Ministry of Magic - he becomes the Head of Magical Law Enforcement.
He works with Hermione, who is the Minister of Magic, and eventually Ron, who becomes an Auror.
Before working with Harry and Hermione, Ron was working at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
With as productive as the trio could be when it came to defeating a dark wizard, having them work together at the Ministry of Magic is a solid move to help both the Wizard and Muggle worlds.
His Scar Hurt Again
Harry is known for many characteristics, but he is mainly known for his distinctive lightning bolt scar.
His scar was the only mark Voldemort left when he tried to take Harry’s life when he was a baby. Throughout the movies, Harry’s scar often hurt and could put him in excruciating pain since it was linked to Voldemort’s emotions.
Once Voldemort was defeated, fans wondered if his scar would ever hurt again, and it certainly did.
After his son Albus’ fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry’s scar begins to burn again, making him worry that Voldemort could somehow be returning.
While Voldemort didn’t actually return, it was revealed that Voldemort’s daughter was trying to bring him back to life.
Harry Obtained A More Powerful Time Turner
The magical object called a time turner was revealed in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
A time turner was given to Hermione in her third year so that she could attend more classes, but she likely never went back in time for more than a day at a time.
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry receives a more powerful time turner from Theodore Nott, which allows its user to time-travel several years in the past and even change history.
It is eventually revealed that this time-turner is actually only a prototype and that Draco Malfoy has the finished model in his possession, which was supposed to be given to his father.
He Maintained A Relationship With Dudley
Harry never really got along with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and his cousin Dudley.
He was often treated horribly by his relatives who justified their actions by explaining that they took Harry in when he was a baby and that he never fit in.
Dudley was often mean to his cousin even though Harry never did anything to upset him.
After the last Harry Potter book was released, J.K. Rowling revealed what happened to Harry and Dudley’s relationship.
In a Q&A back in 2007 with MTV, Rowling explained that the cousins never really became good friends, but would visit one another so that their children could spend time with their own cousins.
Rowling compared this to being on “Christmas-card terms” with someone.
He Never Graduated From Hogwarts
Before the epilogue for The Deathly Hallows, Ron and Hermione stand by Harry as he destroys the Elder Wand.
After that, the epilogue shows them as adults putting their children on the Hogwarts Express, but it was never really revealed in the books or movies if they returned to school themselves.
While many of Harry’s classmates returned to Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their final year, Harry was not one of them.
In an interview for Pottermore, Rowling explained that Ron and Harry both never graduated from Hogwarts, but Hermione went back to earn her N.E.W.T.s.
It isn’t surprising that neither Ron or Harry finished their schooling, and it makes sense why Hermione would feel the need to finish hers.
He Refused To Save Cedric Diggory
It was clearly a traumatic experience for Harry when Voldemort took Cedric Diggory’s life right in front of him.
Diggory may have been his competition in winning the Triwizard Tournament, but he was still a classmate and friend. Despite Harry’s guilt over not being to save Cedric, Harry refused to go back in time to save Cedric when Amos Diggory asked him to.
Harry learned the danger of time travel from Hermione and he knew it could drastically damage the present if he changed the past.
Harry’s son Albus didn’t agree with his father’s decision, however, and decided to travel back in time with Draco Malfoy’s son - Scorpius - in order to save Cedric.
He Threatened To Shut Down Hogwarts
While Draco and Harry were mortal enemies during their time in school, their sons became good friends since they were both sorted into Slytherin.
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry kept worrying that Voldemort was going to return, especially after he talked to Dumbledore’s painting and heard from the centaur Bane that a “dark cloud” was around Albus.
Harry, of course, assumes that Draco’s son Scorpius has something to do with endangering Albus.
Because of this, he tells Minerva McGonagall that she must keep them separated and keep a close eye on Albus with the Marauder's Map or he would shut down the school.
Minerva, being the strong independent woman she is, denies Harry’s request and Harry never shut down the school.
He Made It Onto A Chocolate Frog Card
Harry Potter definitely accomplished some incredible feats while he attended Hogwarts. He saved the entire school on multiple occasions and brought down The Dark Lord.
With these achievements, it’s not surprising that Harry ended up on a Chocolate Frog card. After all, people have gotten on the cards for a lot less than what Harry had done.
J.K. Rowling revealed in an interview with Bloomsbury Publishing that Harry, Ron, and Hermione all made it onto chocolate frog cards due to their involvement and service in the Second Wizarding War.
Making it onto a Chocolate Frog card must be an honor for any witch or wizard, but Rowling said that for Ron, this was his “finest hour.”
He Never Became An Animagus
Many Animagi are seen in the Harry Potter movies. Professor McGonagall can be seen transforming from a cat form, James Potter could turn into a Stag, Sirius Black a dog, Peter Pettigrew a rat, and Professor Lupin a werewolf - only he couldn’t help it when there was a full moon.
With two of his relatives being able to transform into animals, many assumed that Harry would learn the skill, but he never does.
Harry accomplished a lot for himself and his family after the events in The Deathly Hallows, but apparently Harry never felt the need to master the art of Animagi.
Typically an animagus correlates with a Wizard's Patronus, which means that Harry would hypothetically turn into a stag if he were to master the skill.
He Passed Away
Yes, Harry Potter is still alive in the Harry Potter universe, but he did actually pass away at one point.
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, when Scorpius and Albus travel back in time to try to save Cedric, they actually create a reality where Harry is no longer living.
They tried to embarrass Cedric during the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, which resulted in Cedric joining the Death Eaters.
Cedric went on to end Neville Longbottom in the Battle of Hogwarts, which meant that Neville couldn’t slay Nagini, and in turn, Voldemort defeats Harry.
Obviously Albus was missing from this reality since Harry was never given the opportunity to have children, but eventually, this reality was corrected.
He Came Face To Face With Voldemort’s Daughter
When Delphi is first introduced in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, she is believed to be the niece of Amos Diggory. This is soon discovered to be a lie and it is revealed that Delphi is actually the daughter of Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange.
Delphi manipulates Albus and Scorpius into helping her steal a time-turner from Hermione’s office at the Ministry of Magic and travel back in time to save Cedric Diggory.
Knowing that this could potentially change history, Delphi tries to follow a prophecy so that her father can return.
While her plan ultimately fails, it was still surprising to have Harry come face to face with Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix’s offspring.
He Was Given Sirius’ Motorcycle
Not very many people are aware, but the motorbike that Hagrid drives in The Sorcerer’s Stone actually belongs to Sirius Black.
He borrowed it from Sirius in order to drive Harry to 4 Privet Drive. Years later, Hagrid drives Harry away from Privet Drive in The Order of the Phoenix in the same bike but is attacked by Death Eaters.
The bike is seemingly destroyed, but Mr. Weasley salvages the bike and eventually is able to repair it.
The books explain how much Sirius loved his motorbike so it only makes sense that it would eventually go to Harry, according to J.K Rowling.
Sirius was said to have a lot of fun with the motorbike, so hopefully Harry will be seen flying it in a future movie.
He Time Traveled With Ron And Hermione
Fans got accustomed to Harry, Ron, and Hermione going on adventures in both the Harry Potter books and movies.
While Harry Potter and the Cursed Child expanded on the next generation of children, Harry still went on another adventure with his friends.
Harry and Hermione time-traveled in The Prisoner of Azkaban, but unfortunately Ron was too injured to accompany them.
That being said, Ron did get to time-travel with his friends in The Cursed Child when they had to go back in time to rescue Albus and Scorpius from Voldemort’s daughter Delphi.
Like always, the iconic trio saves the day and prevents evil from spreading throughout the world.
He Often Fought With His Son
It’s almost a certainty that children are going to fight with their parents.
James and Harry likely would have had arguments if he had been able to raise Harry, but as everyone knows, Voldemort took James’ life when Harry was very young.
While Harry has two sons in The Cursed Child - Albus and James - Harry primarily fights with Albus since they often don’t see eye to eye on certain situations.
Albus often defied his father, which usually caused conflicts with Harry.
At one point, Harry even told Albus that he wished that he wasn’t his son.
While the father and son have their disagreements, as the book progresses, they begin to fix their relationship.
He Still Had Nightmares About Voldemort
Sending a child off to school can be a stressful time for any parent. While Harry loved his time at Hogwarts, he was also forced to grow up much faster than most kids because of his conflict with Lord Voldemort.
Coming face-to-face with the man who ended his parents had to be tough enough, but Voldemort was also able to read Harry’s mind and even possess him.
Because of their history, it’s not surprising that Harry would have nightmares about Voldemort even after he defeated him. This is elaborated upon in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child when Harry begins to worry that Voldemort may be returning.
Voldemort possibly could have returned if Delphi had her way, but thankfully Voldemort only remains in Harry’s dreams.
He Restored Snape’s Portrait
Harry and Snape always had a complicated relationship in both the books and the movies.
Harry and his friends often thought that Snape was behind the evil doings at Hogwarts, especially after he ended Dumbledore’s life.
While Snape was often thought to be a villain, it is revealed in The Deathly Hallows that Snape had been a double agent working for Dumbledore doing whatever it took to protect Harry.
Harry realizes this before Snape passes away and, according to J.K. Rowling, ensures that Snape has his Headmaster portrait put back up in the Headmaster’s Office.
After all, he may have seemed vile during his time as Headmaster, but it was really just a show.
He Disguised Himself As Voldemort
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Voldemort’s daughter Delphi tries to alter history to allow her father to reign once again.
Near the end of the play, Delphi takes Albus and Scorpius back to Godric’s Hollow the night before Voldemort ends the lives of Lily and James Potter.
Albus and Scorpius think Delphi plans to end Harry’s life before Voldemort fails to, but Harry and his friends believe that Delphi will try to persuade the Dark Lord from hurting Harry so that Voldemort can survive and spend time with her.
Because of this theory, Harry disguises himself as Voldemort and is able to distract and capture Delphi.
Delphi is then taken to Azkaban Prison to serve time for her crimes.
He Came To An Understanding With Draco
From the very beginning, Harry and Draco never really got along.
They fought throughout their six years at Hogwarts and nearly ended each others lives on multiple occasions.
While the two boys never got along at Hogwarts, they came to an understanding once they grew up and had children of their own.
Their sons become friends at Hogwarts and are sorted into Slytherin. When Draco realizes that his son has traveled back in time with Harry’s son, he helps Harry by giving him a powerful Time-Turner which was a perfected version of the one Scorpius and Albus were in possession of.
Draco never would have helped Harry when Voldemort was around, but with the Dark Lord gone and his son in danger, Draco and Harry were able to be on speaking terms.
He Lost His Parseltongue Ability
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it is revealed that Harry can speak Parseltongue, which means that he can communicate with snakes.
This leads everyone to believe that he is the heir of Slytherin and that he is the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets. While he was a Parselmouth, he only got the ability because part of Voldemort’s soul was attached to Harry.
After Voldemort struck Harry down in the Forbidden Forrest, the Horcrux inside Harry was destroyed meaning he was no longer able to speak to snakes.
As J.K. Rowling explained in 2007, “He loses the ability, and is very glad to do so.”
Speaking to snakes may seem like an awesome ability for some, but Harry had always hated the similarities he shared with the Dark Lord.
He Watched Voldemort Take Down His Parents
Near the end of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry is forced to watch Voldemort take his parents' lives again. After time-traveling to save his son and Draco’s son, Harry captures Voldemort’s daughter Delphi.
Delphi had taken them back to the night that Voldemort ended James and Lily, and while the group could have probably saved Harry’s parents, they chose not to.
Altering the past via time-travel is very dangerous and there is no telling what could have happened if James and Lily had survived.
Harry had to make this sacrifice and sit idly by as he watched his parents fade away once again thanks to Lord Voldemort.
