Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone released back in the winter of 2001 and was the biggest box office hit of the year, fending off competition from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Monsters, Inc and Shrek to take home the gold medal. It was the first outing for Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger and got the franchise off to a successful start.

So we'll now wind back the clock and take a look at the blockbuster. Here are the five characters with the most screentime according to IMDB- and five with the least

Most: Harry Potter (72:45)

Naturally, you'd expect Harry Potter to top the standings when it comes to screentime. After all, the franchise is all about The Boy Who Lived and it would be a little odd if he didn't get the most minutes out of all the characters in the movie.

Harry is in the title for 72 minutes and 45 seconds. He starts off as a boy bullied and pushed around by his vile relatives the Dursleys but, by the end, he's the hero of Hogwarts after stopping Lord Voldemort from returning to power. He sets off back to his nasty family members a completely different person to how he was before.

Least: Scabbers/Peter Pettigrew (:15)

With just 15 seconds of screentime, Scabbers the rat is barely in the movie. Fans obviously know he's not a rat at all - he's instead a dark wizard named Peter Pettigrew who played a key role in the deaths of James and Lily Potter many years before. And it seems he was only thrown into the blockbuster so help set the scene for the shock twist that was to follow two films later.

Scabbers makes a fleeting cameo during Harry and Ron Weasley's train journey into Hogwarts. Ron attempts to turn him yellow using an old spell Fred and George taught him but it doesn't work - because Scabbers is human.

Most: Ron Weasley (28:15)

As Harry's most-loyal friend, Ron Weasley was always going to be a prominent character in the Sorcerer's Stone movie. He first meets the Boy Who Lived at Kings Cross Station before they both get on the train to Hogwarts together, which proves to be the early steps of a vital and brilliant friendship.

Ron is in the title for 28 minutes and 15 seconds. His highlights include saying the words 'bloody hell' alot, bickering with Hermione Granger and masterminding an impressive victory in the game Wizard's Chess as they look to stop Voldemort from obtaining the stone he seeks. If it wasn't for his knowledge of the intense game, the Dark Lord would have returned to power significantly earlier.

Least: The Fat Lady (:15)

The Fat Lady is...exactly how she's described. She's a rather sizeable lady who guards the entrance to Gryffindor Tower, requesting those who attempt to enter give up the password. And she makes a brief appearance in the first Harry Potter movie of the series, with Percy Weasley introducing her to new students.

She's actually slightly more prominent in the source material. The Fat Lady flees to go drinking with a friend one evening and leaves Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville Longbottom all stranded. That's where the quartet encounters Fluffy the three-headed dog for the first time and their late-night wonderings very nearly come back to haunt them.

Most: Hermione Granger (23:15)

Hermione introduces herself to Ron and Harry on Train Philosopher's Stone

Hermione Granger's relationship with Harry and Ron gets off to a rocky start. She meets the pair on the train journey into Hogwarts but rubs them up the wrong way by acting arrogantly and abrasively, mocking Ron after his attempt to turn Scabbers yellow backfires.

She continues to aggravate the duo but, after they save her from being killed by a giant troll, the trio become friends. Hermione sticks to their side from then on and plays a major role in stopping Voldemort from getting the stone, using her intelligent head to guide them past the challenges the teachers of Hogwarts had put in place.

Least: Ginny Weasley (:15)

Ginny Weasley ends up marrying Harry Potter after the events of the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. She first meets her future husband on the Kings Cross train platform and wishes him 'good luck' as he goes through the barrier to begin his Hogwarts adventure.

Ginny is timid at this point. She spends most of her time being quiet around Harry due to her huge crush on him and it isn't until the Prisoner of Azkaban onwards that she grows into her shell, becoming increasingly more comfortable. This confidence ultimately woos Harry and the pair get together during the events of the Half-Blood Prince.

Most: Rubeus Hagrid (16:30)

Rubeus Hagrid is among the first three characters fans get to see on the big screen, appearing in the opening scene of the Sorcerer's Stone alongside Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall. He delivers young Harry to the Dursleys, takes him to Hogwarts a decade later, and then offers him guidance and advice throughout a tricky first year at the castle.

Hagrid is also unable to keep his mouth shut and offers Harry, Ron, and Hermione unwilling tips as they attempt to get to the stone before Voldemort. He's a source of comedy throughout the blockbuster but his screentime was drastically cut as the series went on.

Least: Molly Weasley (:30)

When Harry is unable to find Platform 9 3/4, he looks around for help. Fortunately, he spots a red-headed woman with many red-headed children talking about muggles and decides to follow them. Eventually, he plucks up the courage to ask how to get to the platform so he can get to Hogwarts on time.

Molly Weasley is sweet and kind to Harry and offers him nice words of encouragement. Little does the Boy Who Lived know she'd become a maternal figure to him in the years afterward, always defending his best interests and treating him with the same love she gives her own children. She doesn't have much in the way of money but there's no denying her heart is made from gold.

Most: Albus Dumbledore (9:45)

Dumbledore talking in The Sorcerer's Stone

The very first character we see in a Harry Potter movie is Albus Dumbledore. He patrols the streets of Private Drive using his Deluminator to make sure he, Minerva McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid aren't seen as they deliver Harry to the Dursleys at the dead of night, just hours after the brutal killings of James and Lily Potter.

Dumbledore is often on hand to give Harry some advice and arguably his highlight is when he talks with the Boy Who Lived in front of the Mirror of Erised. Instead of berating the student for being out and about after dark he instead teaches him about the mirror, which is used to help trick Voldemort during the movie's final act. Dumbledore also gives Gryffindor the House Cup at the end of the film, breaking Slytherin hearts in the process.

Least: Angelina Johnson and Katie Bell (:30)

Given both Angelina Johnson and Katie Bell are members of the Gryffindor Common Room, and both appear in the Sorcerer's Stone for the grand total of 30 seconds, it felt only right to include them under the same spot.

The pair are seen during the epic showdown between Gryffindor and Slytherin. The odds seem stacked against their house when captain Oliver Wood is forced out of the contest through injury but Harry is the hero, catching the Golden Snitch in his mouth and steering his side to victory as a result.
