The official trailer for HBO Max's Harry Potter reunion special has arrived, offering fans their best look yet at the cast's grand return. 2021 has been an interesting year for the Harry Potter franchise. The first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has charged forward with several new projects set within the Wizarding World. A Harry Potter television show is reportedly in development at HBO Max, and the third film in the franchise's prequel series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, set a spring 2022 premiere date.

What will be most exciting to longtime fans is HBO Max's Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. Not unlike this year's Friends reunion, Return to Hogwarts will reunite several stars from across all 8 Harry Potter films for the first time in several years as they look back on the iconic franchise. This includes leading trio Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. The special will arrive on HBO Max on New Year's Day, and the streaming service has steadily hyped up its arrival through teasers and first look images. Now, an official trailer has arrived.

HBO Max has debuted the first proper trailer for Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, several days after it first hinted it would arrive. As opposed to the first teaser, which offered only quick glimpses at certain cast members, the official Return to Hogwarts trailer reveals actual footage from the special, including snippets of interviews with Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, and Radcliffe. Check it out down below.

The moment fans will likely be talking about the most is the highly-anticipated sit-down between Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint, but the Return to Hogwarts trailer provides plenty for fans to get teary-eyed over. From watching Watson embrace onscreen enemy Tom Felton to getting a peek at a conversation between Radcliffe and Gary Oldman, it's clear Return to Hogwarts will feature numerous heartwarming moments with the Harry Potter cast. Even more special is the actual Hogwarts setting; the Great Hall serves as the backdrop for stars' reunions, while smaller conversations are held in classrooms and common rooms.

As promised, Return to Hogwarts will serve as both a franchise retrospective and a behind the scenes special. The trailer has a mix of moments where the cast looks back on making the Harry Potter movies - such as when Bonham Carter recalls the funny moment where she played Hermione acting as Bellatrix Lestrange - and where they see how far they have all come. The sight of Watson and Grint, now grown and exchanging sweet words, is bound to appeal to Potterheads' nostalgia. If this trailer is enough to make you cry, be sure to tune into HBO Max on New Year's Day to watch the entire Harry Potter special.
