The latest trailer for HBO Max's Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts offers an even more in-depth look at the highly anticipated reunion. 2021 has been a big year for the Harry Potter franchise, which says a lot considering it didn't offer much by way of content. Though author J.K. Rowling continues to court controversy, Warner Bros. has moved forward with the development of new Wizarding World projects and begun promoting Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third installment in the prequel film franchise. Amid all this, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone celebrated its 20th anniversary in November, thus presenting the perfect opportunity to reunite the franchise's cast.

Debuting on HBO Max on New Years Day, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary brings together several familiar faces from across all 8 movies. From Tom Felton to Gary Oldman, the stars have gathered on the original Harry Potter sets to look back at the franchise's legacy and the making of the films. Most excitingly, Return to Hogwarts will feature a conversation between the leading trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Fans have already been offered several peeks at the special in the lead-up to its debut.

That HBO Max was able to gather so many people for Return to Hogwarts is an incredible feat, and it shows just how beloved this series remains to so many people. Part of the appeal of the Harry Potter franchise was how it assembled a cast of acting heavyweights like Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter to stand alongside young newcomers like Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint. Seeing them all back together again is an exciting thing and makes Return to Hogwarts particularly special. After all, the Harry Potter cast hasn't been together on this level since the movies themselves.

Notably absent is Rowling, who will not appear in any new footage. Whether HBO Max chose not to include her due to her anti-trans views isn't clear, but Return to Hogwarts will nevertheless focus exclusively on the franchise's cast and directors. Based on the above trailer, it looks like the Harry Potter special will feature moments for every featured star, and it'll include plenty behind the scenes stories from across the franchise. Potterheads won't want to miss this one.
