A new Harry Potter TV series is imminent, and several actors from the original movies could feasibly return to their roles—or take on new ones. Of course, as a good deal of the cast grew up on the set of the Warner Bros films, the child stars won't be able to return to their old characters. However, in the case of some of the adults, there is no reason those who brought the story to life couldn't do so again for the series.

A TV remake for the Harry Potter books has been confirmed (via Screen Rant), and it will mean more time dedicated to Harry's story. This is great news for die-hard fans who have long lamented the elements that the Warner Bros movies left out. Still, there is much about the beloved eight films that were entirely perfect, especially regarding casting. It's difficult to imagine new actors playing these roles, and in some cases, there is also no need for it. For parts that must be recast, it could be possible for the TV series to bring in some old familiar faces to make the transition more palatable.

Argus Filch Could Still Be Played By David Bradley

Harry Potter Filch

Argus Filch was a rather nasty character in the Harry Potter books, but he is seen as a sort of endearing characteristic of Hogwarts Castle itself. He was perfectly brought to life by actor David Bradley, so it's challenging to reread the books and not see his quivering face. The nasty grin and adoration for his cat, Mrs. Norris, were spot on. So, if it isn't broken, it doesn't need fixing. It's assumed that Hogwarts will look similar to the Harry Potter films since the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park is based on those sets. If this is so, there's no reason that Bradley couldn't be brought back as well.

Miriam Margolyes Could Return As Professor Pomona Sprout

It's surprising to realize that actress Miriam Margolyes only appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Of course, she was so memorable as Professor Pomona Sprout that audiences seemed to imagine her in the other films (and, of course, while they read the books). If the upcoming Harry Potter series plans to dedicate an entire season to each of Rowling's books, then they won't get away with omitting Sprout again. Therefore, the remake might be wise to bring the legendary Margolyes back again to repot more mandrakes.

Emma Thompson Can Still Play Professor Sybill Trelawney

Harry Potter Professor Trelawneyjpg (1)

After Harry met Sybill Trelawney, played by actress Emma Thompson, in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie, she was a fairly regular presence for the remaining films. Still, the character wasn't nearly as prominent in the movies as she was in the Harry Potter books. Professor Sybill Trelawney was ludicrous and full of hot air, but her prophecy was supposed to be critical to Harry's story. Of course, though the detail surrounding the seer needs improving in the TV series, the acting performance does not. Thompson was just as outrageous as she needed to be—and another actor might not get it right.

Filius Flitwick Can Still Be Played By Warwick Davis

Filius Flitwick's appearance drastically changed in the Harry Potter movies, so a redesign in the TV series might be easier to swallow than for other characters. Of course, despite looking different in the third Harry Potter movie, Professor Flitwick was always played by actor Warwick Davis, who also played Griphook the goblin in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Davis is an icon in the fantasy genre and would be a welcome sight in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series, no matter the role. The actor's versatility and experience acting through layers of prosthetic makeup makes him invaluable.

Gemma Jones Can Still Play Poppy Pomfrey

Harry-Potter-Madam-Pomfrey

Poppy Pomfrey is the no-nonsense matron of the Hospital Wing, a location of Hogwarts Castle where Harry spent much of his time in the Harry Potter books. Of course, he was never eager to be there, so it would take a sharp word from Madam Pomfrey to keep him abed. This was pulled off in the movies by actress Gemma Jones, whose crisp criticisms in Chamber of Secrets were exactly how readers had imagined the character. Like many of the additional staff at Hogwarts, Madam Pomfrey wasn't featured nearly enough in the movies. However, bringing Jones back for the series would fix that.

Tom Felton Could Play Lucius Malfoy In A Harry Potter Remake

Draco and Lucius Malfoy in Deathly Hallows Part 1 (1)

In the Harry Potter books, Lucius Malfoy attended Hogwarts at the same time as the Marauders (though he was several years older). Of course, the Harry Potter movies cast the generation before Harry's a lot older than their book counterparts, but a TV series could remedy this. This would mean that actor Jason Isaacs would have aged out of the Lucius Malfoy role, but that doesn't mean another familiar face couldn't take his place. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, could easily take up the mantle. Audiences already see Felton as a Malfoy, so upgrading him to patriarch would be thrilling to see.

A Harry Potter Remake Could Cast James Phelps As Mr. Weasley

Fred-and-George-Weasley

Fred and George Weasley are another set of characters that will be difficult to see handed to a new set of young actors. James and Oliver Phelps had perfected the twin-like back and forth of Fred and George's lines, which ensured they were just as comical as their book counterparts. Of course, seeing a new Weasley twin duo might be easier if one of the original actors were to appear as their father. This could be either of the Phelps brothers, but because of Fred's death in the Harry Potter movies, it might be more touching to see James as the Muggle-loving Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter remake series.

Major Characters From The Original Series Could Appear In Cameos

While actors like Margolyes, Bradley, and Thompson would be wonderful to see in recurring roles in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, it would be bittersweet to see them on screen without the lead actors of the movies. In fans' minds, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will always be the Golden Trio, but HBO will need 11-year-olds to start the 10-year-old series over. However, that isn't to say these actors couldn't appear in cameos. If Radcliffe were to play a kindly Ministry worker, or if other iconic actors like Maggie Smith were to surprise audiences with an appearance, it would surely go a long way.

Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, & Other Stars Of The Original Are No Longer With Us

Hagrid-Snape-Harry-Potter

The most difficult characters that HBO will have the job to recast will be those whose actors have passed away since the Harry Potter movies concluded. Robbie Coltrane and Alan Rickman perfectly embodied the characters of Rubeus Hagrid and Severus Snape—so much so that seeing other actors take their place could feel uncomfortable. The same is true for individuals like Richard Griffiths, Helen McCrory, Robert Hardy, and John Hurt. These individuals were a big part of what made the Harry Potter movies such works of art, and HBO's news Harry Potter TV series must be careful with that legacy.
