Dumbledore’s Army was made up of many of Harry Potter’s classmates from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Hogwarts students banded together in secret to train with Harry on how to fight dark wizards and learn to defend themselves in the wake of Voldemort's return.

While all of the members of Dumbledore’s Army had something to offer in the fight against evil, some of them were more powerful than others. We’ve put together a list of the notable members of Dumbledore’s Army and ranked them from the least to the most powerful.

CREEVEY BROTHERS

Colin Creevey

The Creevey brothers, Dennis and Colin, might never have been very powerful. But, what they lack in power they make up for in sheer heart. Colin admired Harry Potter from his first year at Hogwarts, so it's’ no surprise he and his brother were members of the DA.

While they might not have been talented wizards, they were brave and dedicated to the cause and definitely worthy members of Dumbledore's Army.

HUFFLEPUFFS (HANNAH ABBOTT, ERNIE MACMILLAN, JUSTIN FINCH-FLETCHLEY, ZACHARIAS SMITH)

Hufflepuff Hogwarts Harry Potter

Sadly, Hufflepuffs aren’t really given their due in any of the Harry Potter books. While most of the Hufflepuff members of Dumbledore’s Army were solid contributors, Zacharias Smith was a bit of a coward and didn’t really want to be there that much.

Overall, the Hufflepuffs in the group never really got a chance to show off their skills or prove themselves as valuable. That's really too bad, considering that Hufflepuff as a house already has a reputation for being pretty passive, one that is not entirely earned.

GRYFFINDOR CHASERS (ALICIA SPINNET, ANGELINA JOHNSON, KATIE BELL)

The Gryffindor chasers have always been background characters in the series. It’s clear that the three of them are capable witches, although they aren’t shown to be particularly skilled or powerful in one way or another. As a group, however, they are definitely a stable force that is smart and loyal.

They are likable and relatable members of the group. Plus, they are very skilled chasers which makes them well-rounded witches.

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM

Neville Longbottom is definitely a character who comes into his own as the series progresses. At the beginning of the story, he's the kind of kid who just can't seem to get anything right, and by the end of it, he's standing up against Voldemort alongside his fellow wizards.

While Neville is definitely powerful in his own way, he hasn’t reached the height of his power at the time Dumbledore’s Army is assembled in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. However, he is clearly a character with a lot of dormant strength and power that comes into play in the final book when he kills Nagini.

RON WEASLEY

Ron Weasley has many strengths that he provides as a member of the trio(Harry, Ron, and Hermione). However, he’s not the most powerful wizard. As far as sheer magical ability goes, Ron is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

He provides stalwart support to Harry and Hermione as they lead Dumbledore's Army, and he is skilled at some magic. However, he doesn't necessarily apply himself all of the time.

CHO CHANG

Cho Chang is more powerful than she’s often given credit for. She is clearly a capable witch as well as a talented Quidditch player. During the events of Order of the Phoenix, Cho Chang was definitely struggling with grief and trauma after losing Cedric Diggory at the end of the Triwizard Tournament.

While Harry wasn’t very sympathetic to her struggles, she is definitely a witch that can hold her own most of the time. The series definitely made her out to be overemotional, but this doesn't mean she isn't capable of magic as well as great Quidditch playing skills.

LUNA LOVEGOOD

Luna Lovegood is strange, weird, and a little “loony,” and these are some of her greatest strengths. She is able to produce powerful magic, but beyond that, she is also a powerful witch because of her uniqueness and loyalty to her friends.

Luna is definitely a witch that you want to have on your side. There is more to power than just being able to cast the most complex spells. Luna is also an experimental type meaning that she's likely willing to try new things and take risks when it comes to magic.

GINNY WEASLEY

Ginny is another character that is definitely powerful but never really gets a lot of focus. It’s shown throughout the series that she can hold her own and is rather talented in casting certain spells such as the Bat-Bogey Hex.

Ginny is another character who goes from insecure and shy to confident and talented as the series goes on. She also became an important part of Dumbledore’s Army in the Deathly Hallows after Harry, Ron, and Hermione left school.

FRED AND GEORGE WEASLEY

Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter

Fred and George Weasley weren’t ever into applying themselves in school, but they were geniuses in other ways. They were able to invent magical objects and come up with powerful spells that impressed even the likes of Hermione, even if they were breaking the rules.

Their skills with magic lead them to open their Weasley's Wizard Wheezes after leaving Hogwarts. Fred and George Weasley were also loyal and brave, even if they loved to joke around, and they are extremely talented wizards even if they were never really bookish types.

HERMIONE GRANGER

Hermione Granger has been referred to multiple times throughout the series as the brightest witch of her age. She is extremely driven, intelligent, and talented when it comes to magic.

Her knowledge and dedication often save the day in the series, and, as has been pointed out by many people, the trio wouldn’t have gotten very far without her. Hermione definitely is one of the most magically talented, and hardworking, characters in the series.

HARRY POTTER

Harry Potter might not always be the most likable character or the most hardworking, but in terms of pure magical ability, he has a lot of it. He is extremely talented and powerful when it comes to defense against the dark arts.

Plus, because of his connection to Voldemort and the protection from his mother, he has power on a deep level. As the leader of Dumbledore's Army and the main character of the series, he definitely had to be first on this list.
