Hufflepuff house indisputably gets the least amount of attention and accolades out of all of the houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And while it's hard to deny that Hufflepuff has been home to some unexceptional witches and wizards, one thing that nearly every Hufflepuff has a talent for is making friends and accepting everyone.

Hufflepuff rarely gets it's time to shine, but there are still quite a few characters in the Harry Potter universe who came from Hufflepuff and managed to make a distinctive mark on the wizarding world. These are the most recognizable Hufflepuffs, ranked by likability factor.

Zacharias Smith

It's shocking given that Hufflepuff has a reputation for being so nice to the point of being pushovers, but they actually do have a few little jerks in their midst. And one of the most annoying has got to be Zacharias Smith.

He only interacted a few times with the trio, but he was always incredibly rude to them, and when the Battle of Hogwarts began Zacharias actually pushed first years out of the way in his hurry to flee.

Ernie MacMillan

Ernie MacMillan is far more in line with the traditional Hufflepuff than Zacharias was, but he still wasn't without flaw. When the Chamber of Secrets was opened he was very suspicious that Harry was the Heir of Slytherin and treated him accordingly.

However, when Hermione was attacked by the basilisk, Ernie realized he must have been mistaken, so he apologized to Harry for his misgivings. He and Harry became friends, and Ernie generally seems like a decent guy.

Hannah Abbott

Hannah Abbott was in Harry's year and she was good friends with Ernie. Like most of the Hufflepuffs, Hannah took part in the bullying of Harry when he was entered into the Triwizard Tournament, and she appeared to be one of Cedric's friends.

Not a shining moment in her career, but when she reached adulthood she actually married the man, the myth, the legend, Neville Longbottom. The fact that he married her alone means that she must be pretty cool.

Theseus Scamander

Theseus Scamander was actually quite the superstar in the wizarding world, and Hufflepuff unfortunately doesn't have many legends within it's ranks.

On paper Theseus was a brilliant auror and a war hero, and he had many warm and kind moments with his loved ones in the Fantastic Beasts series, however his strait-laced attitude and generally reserved demeanor made him slightly less charming than some other Hufflepuffs.

Fat Friar

Hufflepuff in general is known for being kind and welcoming, so it's not surprising that even their house ghost is friendly and charming. He was an incredibly charitable and loving man, so much so that when he overused his magic by curing many muggles of pox, he was actually executed for practicing witchcraft.

But everyone at Hogwarts seems to love having him around, and that's probably the only ghost that Hogwarts feels unanimously good about.

Pomona Sprout

Back in the land of the living, Pomona Sprout is a professor and the head of Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts. She seems very jolly and friendly, and she obviously loves her job and loves the students that she teaches.

Probably the only negative mark on her Hufflepuff resume is that she seems incredibly unbothered by her students being endangered by her more terrifying magical plants and herbs.

Cedric Diggory

Cedric is one of the most important Hufflepuff characters in the Harry Potter saga, and it's easy to see why he was singled out as the most extraordinary student at Hogwarts.

He was an incredibly talented wizard to be sure, but he was also surprisingly friendly, humble, compassionate, and understanding for a boy his age. Even at 17 years old he was a better wizard and person than many witches and wizards will be in their entire lives.

Nymphadora Tonks

Hufflepuff often gets an unfortunate reputation for being the leftovers of Hogwarts students, and because the house isn't typically populated with braggarts, many 'puffs wind up flying under the radar.

But the incredibly badass auror and Order of the Phoenix member Nymphadora Tonks proves every bad stereotype of Hufflepuffs wrong. She is one of the toughest and most intimidating characters in the series, and she was an incredibly gifted and capable witch.

Newt Scamander

Hufflepuff is obviously a low-key house, but the incredible talents of these students are often overlooked or misunderstood, and it's hard to get to know a Hufflepuff and not like them.

Newt Scamander is a perfect example of this, although he's quiet and a natural loner, he is one of the most gifted magizoologists in wizarding history, and everyone who truly gets to know him will love him for life.

Helga Hufflepuff

Although Helga Hufflepuff herself has never been a real presence in the Harry Potter franchise, the legacy that she created and the beliefs that she lived by make her an outstanding witch who's ideas and beliefs permanently changed the wizarding world.

The fact that every other Hogwarts founder wanted specific students while Helga was willing to accept anyone says a lot about her, and her attitude towards egalitarianism have left an everlasting mark on wizardkind.
