In the wizarding world of Harry Potter, there are too many Weasley siblings to count, and, unfortunately, the movie adaptations cut out the coolest member of the family. Harry Potter audiences got to know the Weasley siblings throughout the movies, from Harry Potter’s best friend Ron to the mischievous twins Fred and George. However, Charlie Weasley is hardly mentioned in the film adaptations and is the only Weasley not shown on screen. His absence from the films is odd considering his character is wildly interesting in the books.

Charlie Weasley is the second son of both Arthur and Molly Weasley. He was mentioned briefly throughout the films as the sibling who was off studying and working with dragons in Romania. He is specifically mentioned in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, after Harry, Ron and Hermione discover that Hagrid had a baby dragon with him illegally. Ron wrote to Charlie to have the baby dragon sent away to the dragon sanctuary in Romania. Other than his interest in dragons and his work in Romania, not much else is known about the mysterious Weasley brother. According to the Harry Potter books, during his time at Hogwarts, Charlie was captain of the Quidditch team and the seeker. He excelled in the sport but didn’t go on to pursue it after he finished school, preferring to spend his time outdoors in nature.

The Harry Potter book series is jammed-packed with different plot points, characters, moments, and specific details. With so much to cover, the movies had to make compromises and leave some elements out that were in the original story. This has happened with several book-to-film adaptations in the past. Sometimes, certain parts of the story get cut out if they aren’t explicitly needed. While Charlie’s character is very cool and interesting, he ultimately wasn’t a major part of the overall story of Harry Potter. To save time to explore the most important storylines, Charlie’s character was unfortunately cut.

Charlie Weasley Would Have Made Harry Potter Movies Better

The Weasley family in Egypt

Being able to see Charlie working in Romania would have been amazing to see in the Harry Potter films. As audiences know, the Wizarding World spreads past the United Kingdom. Thanks to the Fantastic Beasts series, it’s now clear that witches and wizards exist all over the world. The main Harry Potter movies only focus on the witches and wizards within the United Kingdom, but if Charlie had more of a role in the films, viewers would have been able to see the work of magical folk around the globe. In the book series, Charlie’s time abroad plays a role in the Second Wizarding War that culminates in the final two films of the series. Charlie was able to recruit foreign wizards to fight in the war while staying in Romania. If this had been shown in the movies, audiences would have been able to see how vast the Wizarding World actually is.

Unfortunately, Charlie Weasley was not seen in the film adaptations of the Harry Potter series. Charlie’s presence would have provided more dragon content, as well as introduced the audience to the wider world of magic. It would have been fascinating to see the coolest of the Weasley siblings throughout the films, even if he didn’t add too much to the plot.
