Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, says he'd gladly return to Hogwarts if given the opportunity. The actor got his start in the industry playing Harry's (Daniel Radcliffe) snobbish rival in the movie series based on J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels. The Harry Potter series concluded in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, but the Wizarding World franchise has lived on with the prequel spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Although Felton was only 13 when he first took on the role, the young actor grew with the character as he gained depth and darkness over the years. Towards the end of the books and films, Malfoy faces multiple identity crises and ethical dilemmas that break down his arrogance, first into a scattered panic and eventually empty resignation. Like Severus Snape, the question of whether Malfoy is good or evil is central to his character and his role in the story. Draco's goodness remains ambiguous throughout the film as he waffles between bending to family pressure to support Lord Voldemort and a deeper human instinct to side with his Hogwarts peers. He shows support for both Harry and Voldemort in their final battle, leaving his allegiance unclear. An epilogue at the end of The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 shows an aged-up Malfoy smirk at Harry as they drop their children off at Platform 9 and 3/4 to head off to Hogwarts.

People reports that Felton would return to his iconic role in a heartbeat. In an interview at the opening of an NYC-based flagship Harry Potter store, Felton was enthusiastic about the prospect of reconnecting with the Malfoy family. The actor says he'd happily bust out the bleach to do another stint as the towheaded Draco in a Wizarding World film. Felton's gracious, flexible attitude toward the hypothetical project is ironically un-Malfoy-like:

"If you're asking me will I dye my hair blonde again to be Draco, abso-bloody-lutely. Either [him or Lucius]. I'll play Draco's kid if you really want! Any chance to be a Malfoy again would be greatly accepted."

After inhabiting the character for a decade, the actor says he couldn't help but grow attached to the role. He admits that "if someone else played [Draco], I'd be slightly possessive." Felton also proposes an interesting casting idea: he could play a different Malfoy other than Draco. He suggests either Draco's father Lucius, a character he could potentially portray in a prequel, or his son, Scorpius, who could appear in a spinoff or standalone sequel. Casting an actor in a different role would be atypical for a fantasy series, as it has the potential to disrupt the world of the story. However, it wouldn't be unheard of to have an actor play one of his character's family members.

As of now, Felton's options for returning to the Wizarding World are few. As the Harry Potter movies are based on the novel series, their conclusion is all but set in stone. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently in the works with five movies total planned, but events of the series take place from 1926 to 1945, before Lucius is born in 1953. A new character named Polaris N.D. Malfoy will be in Fantastic Beasts 3, but the role has been cast. The stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, has created ongoing possibilities for original film cast members to reprise their roles, though there are currently no plans for a film adaptation. A Harry Potter TV series is also currently in early talks at HBO Max, so it's not impossible that Felton could appear in the on-screen Wizarding World again.
