Summary

  • Dumbledore's secrecy and failure to reveal the truth to Harry about dangerous aspects of his life is both perplexing and hilarious.
  • Ron's infatuation with Fleur Delacour makes for an amusing Yule Ball scenario, with jealous Parvati Patil looking on.
  • The dramatic and inexplicable change in hairstyles for Harry and Ron in The Goblet of Fire is a memorable and unnecessary choice in the movie.

The fourth Harry Potter movie brought the franchise in some exciting new directions and the many Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire highlight the fans' enthusiasm for the sequel. As the series grew more serious and saw the threats increasing, Goblet of Fire was the darkest and most epic entry in the franchise up to that point with new character introductions, a tragic death, and the long-awaited arrival of Voldemort in his true form. With so much going on, the movie provided a lot of material for some memorable Goblet of Fire memes.

As much as these movies are beloved by many fans, and Goblet of Fire ranks highly among the best of the series, there are always things to poke fun at in the adventures in the Wizarding World. From the questionable choices of a few key characters to Harry's memorable look in the movie, these are easy targets for memes. However, even the more acclaimed aspects or small details of the movie are fodder for some clever Harry Potter fans to turn into something hilarious.

Harry's Telepathic Connections

Dumbledore Hides Another Secret

Harry suffered a lot because of the bond that Voldemort forged with him, and his visions started troubling him in earnest in his fourth year. Dumbledore was always clued into what was actually going on with him, but for some reason, never properly revealed to Harry that he was compromised. He was incredibly secretive, which many fans find perplexing and hilarious in equal measure, and Harry was always left in the dark to figure things out for himself. Dumbledore does a lot of questionable things throughout the story, but not revealing the truth to Harry about so many dangerous aspects that directly affect him is certainly strange.

Ron's Veela Obsession

Paravati Patil Gets Jealous

Source: Imgflip

Ron didn't bother hiding just how enamored he was by Fleur Delacour and her sister, going as far as to ask them out when he barely stood a chance with the half-Veela girls. This meme depicts the situation at the Yule Ball and throughout the movie perfectly — a furious Parvati Patil watching Ron be transfixed by Fleur. To be fair, it was awfully brave of Ron to make an attempt with her since everyone else was just too intimidated by the Beauxbatons students to even speak to them. Of course, the awkwardness with how he approached the situation in typical Ron fashion showed why Patil need not be jealous.

The Hair

Harry's Infamous Goblet Of Fire Look Stole The Show

Source: Reddit

Actors Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe famously admitted that they hated the hairstyles in The Goblet of Fire, but they remain a highlight of the movie. The boys suddenly had longer, bigger hair, according to the fashions of 2005 when the movie was released. The puffy long hairdos signified their puberty and growing years but managed to eclipse the movie with just how dramatic they were, suddenly and for no reason. While it was always fun to see the actors aging along with the characters and seeing how much they change between installments, this was one change most people could have done without.

Where To Watch Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Dumbledore's Questionable Tasks

Hogwarts Headmaster Starts Kidnapping Students?

The second task involved kidnapping the loved ones of the participants and placing them in faux danger, so that they could be rescued. Hilariously, Redditors imagined Dumbledore himself, creeping into corridors and dormitories and nabbing kids to make the second task a reality. The headmaster was known to be slightly quirky in his approach to school life and student safety, which was why this absurd part of the task was imagined to be his brainchild only. It also does bring up the question of how the strange situation was arranged.

Dance Lessons With Heads Of Houses

Is That A Job For Snape?

Source: 9gag

The iconic twist ending for Severus Snape is loved by many fans, but they also like to think there were funnier scenarios involving him that they didn't get to see behind the scenes. Fred and George whooped and catcalled at Ron when he was made to dance with McGonagall, making him super uncomfortable but creating one of the best scenes in the movie. If McGonagall taught the Gryffindors how to dance, then Potterheads assumed that all heads of houses would teach their wards. This meant that somewhere, Snape was involved in teaching Draco and the Slytherins how to ball dance, which would certainly change the way fans see Severus Snape.

Harry Potter's Moody Impostor

Dumbledore Plays Detective

Magic and wonder were the main focus of Harry Potter, but it started looking a bit like a familiar murder mystery when Mad-Eye Moody was unmasked, and he turned out to be Barty Crouch Jr. There were a lot of plot twists throughout the Harry Potter movies by the fake Moody ended up being one of the most well-executed surprises in the franchise while also showing Dumbledore being ahead of a mystery for once and revealing the truth. However, it is hard not to see the similarities between the reveal and the classic Scooby-Doo trope of unmasking the villain.

The Goblet And Harry

Harry Potter Takes The Spotlight Again

The lighting of the Goblet of Fire was a memorable moment in the movie and the magical artifact seemed to favor Harry a lot more than the other champions. When Harry's name was pulled out of the Goblet of Fire, it took the focus away from Viktor, Fleur, and Cedric completely, with the spotlight squarely on The Boy Who Lived. The poor champions were left largely ignored, and everyone, including the Goblet itself, seemed to be fixated on the underage wizard and how he got his name in the cup at all. It reinforces the common joke about the franchise of how much Harry is the center of attention at Hogwarts while the other students remain anonymous.

Potter Mermaids

The Wizarding World's Take On The Fairytale Creatures

Source: Pinterest

Strange magical creatures littered the Potterverse, and sometimes it made innocuous-seeming creatures look a lot more menacing in J.K. Rowling's world. Mermaids, nymphs, and fish have had reputations over the years as friendly and beautiful creatures, but the ones in the deep dark waters in The Goblet of Fire were terrifying and unlike the old fairytales or the graceful image of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Many aspects of the fourth chapter got a lot more frightening than the previous Harry Potter movies, and the creatures were definitely one of them.

Death Eater Suits In Goblet Of Fire

Preparing For Voldemort's Return

Fans were given a glimpse into the dark side, and how they may have reacted when the Dark Lord returned and commanded their presence. While Death Eaters like Karkaroff were petrified of seeing him again, many rejoiced Voldemort's return.

Fans like to believe that some of them began excitedly looking for their blackest robes and Death Eater masks just like Frozone in The Incredibles. Death Eaters were rarely shown with any emotion, but it's funny to think of them expressing them, even behind the scenes, as they try to make a good impression for Volemort's return.

The Goblet Of Fire Maze Meme

The Movie Lost Something In Translation

Sometimes, the book doesn't translate well to the screen, and the third task in Goblet of Fire was very different from the one described in the text. Sphinxes, blast-ended skrewts, boggarts, and reversed gravity littered the maze in the books, but fans felt a bit cheated out of it in the movies. Sentient plants and curses made for a menacing maze, but it was considerably less than what fans expected from what they had read. There were many instances of the movies needing to bring the scale of the books down in order to meet time and budget concerns and the maze was one such casualty.

Hogwarts' Lax Safety Standards

Dumbledore Might Not Have Every Student's Best Interests In Mind

Source: 9gag

Hogwarts was by no means a safe place for students, but Dumbledore loved touting it as the most secure place for young wizards to be. This didn't mean that it wasn't dangerous: the protection of the most accomplished wizards extended to students, but accidents were a common occurrence that only amplified the sense of danger. The Goblet of Fire added to the growing list of kids who had got hurt, not limited to poor Cedric Diggory's death by Voldemort, and Moaning Myrtle who made an appearance in the movie again. All of this happened while Dumbledore was too happy engaging just with Harry.

Cedric's Untimely Death

Hogwarts' Celebrations Were Ill-Timed

Source: 9gag

Cedric Diggory landing back on the Hogwarts grounds was one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the franchise, but in the actual scene, people didn't realize what had happened till some time later. As Cedric and Harry arrived via Portkey, the Hogwarts band unknowingly kept playing their victorious songs. This meme makes for dark humor about the actual events of that night on the grounds. The sneaky Friends reference makes it instantly relatable. Despite it being such a devastating moment, the strange juxtaposition does add some unintentional humor.

Dumbledore Said, Calmly

A Different Take From Michael Gambon

The biggest running joke of the series is Dumbledore's unnaturally loud and boisterous reaction to Harry's name being produced as a Triwizard champion, which was the complete opposite of what was actually described in the books. Michael Gambon's Dumbledore was anything but calm when he cornered a clearly shocked Harry and demanded that he tell him the truth. It is another instance of the movies deviating from the source material which often happens. However, it is funny that such a small character moment goes in the exact opposite direction.

Scumbag Harry

Harry Refuses To Help A Friend In Need

Source: Reddit

The students of Hogwarts remembered the Yule Ball as one of the biggest events of their teenhood, as it was the first dance that they experienced in their school life. Everybody wanted to look their best, but Ron was stuck with dated dress robes, which looked even more comical next to Harry's expensive, modern ones. Harry could have easily treated Ron to a new pair of robes using all the money he had inherited, and Ron would have probably accepted this one time so he could impress the girls around him.

A Barty Crouch Affair

The Versatile Harry Potter Character

Source: Reddit

Barty Crouch and his son, Junior dominated the series in flashbacks and present-day scenes, and fans didn't make the connection until Junior's involvement as Mad-Eye Moody was revealed right at the end of the movie. He popped up all over the film, in every situation possible. He was a huge part of the fourth Harry Potter movie, and this silly Reddit meme shows just how much he dominated the film, both as himself and as Mad-Eye.
