The Harry Potter franchise is home to a huge variety of fun and fantastical creatures. Some are extremely dangerous and require a skilled witch or wizard to restrain or take down, but there are others that are more open to domestication. We want to take a look at some creatures a little more magical than just an owl.

The creatures that populate the wizarding world have a broad spectrum of personalities. Thanks to the efforts of Newt Scamander, author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we know a lot about the kinds of creatures a wizard could own. But which one vibes perfectly with your own personality? Let's match some fantastic beasts to your Myers-Briggs® type.

ISTJ - Hippogriff

Hippogriffs, like Buckbeak, can be very dangerous creatures. They're entirely carnivorous, as their eagle front half would imply. However, as long as a trainer shows the proper respect, they can be fiercely loyal allies. They're a good match for the Logistician because not only do they have the dedication to work for the trust of this noble beast, but because they have their own inner core of integrity and pride.

ISFJ - Crup

Defenders are some of the most responsible and loyal of all the types. They embody the ideals of tradition and doing good in the world, often working behind the scenes because they don't need to be recognized to feel a sense of accomplishment for their deeds. Crups are a breed of wizard-bred dog that strongly resemble a Jack Russell terrier except for their forked tail. They are defined by their loyalty unceasing support for their allies.

INFJ - Demiguise

A worried Demiguise in Fantastic Beasts

Demiguises are best known for their fur, which is used to make invisibility cloaks. They can turn invisible at will and can also tell the future, making them very difficult to locate if they don't want to be found. They're very intelligent, and would make a good match for an Advocate. The Advocate type is defined by their contemplative and creative nature, as well as a deep desire to help the people and the world grow toward their ideal self.

INTJ - Knarl

Knarls are strange creatures, because they physically resemble regular old hedgehogs in every way. The only way to tell the difference is by leaving some food out in the garden. A hedgehog will happily eat the gift. A knarl will assume a trap and savage the garden in retribution.

The Architect personality is also highly independent and tends to view life like a chessboard or a competition. The knarl's skepticism matches their own.

ISTP - Kneazle

Kneazles are a kind of magical cat with a very high level of intelligent and an independent streak a mile wide. They would make an excellent pet for a Virtuoso, as they're someone who's always on the move, looking for the next exciting challenge. They're practical, ready to face whatever life throws at them, and maybe a little aloof, but everything is better with a cat by your side.

ISFP - Puffskein

Puffskeins are some of the most popular pets in the wizarding world, partly because of how easy they are to care for. They can eat just about anything, and don't object to cuddles or being thrown around like a football. Their easy-going nature would be perfect for an Adventurer. Adventurers are always on the move, seeking out ways to reinvent themselves or push their passions to new heights, and having a stable, loving fluffball around is great when it's time to recharge.

INFP - Bowtruckle

bowtruckle

Mediator personality types are the truest kind of idealists. They seek to create harmony and use their skills to encourage understanding. They usually come across as very shy, but they all have a bright inner flame.

They have a lot in common with bowtruckles, which are peaceful and painfully shy. However, anyone who's tried to cut down a bowtruckle's home tree knows they'll fight viciously to protect what's important to them.

INTP - Diricawl

Diricawls were known to Muggles as dodo birds and were believed to have been hunted to extinction. However, unknown to them, the Diricawl had a defense mechanism similar to apparition; they could disappear and reappear elsewhere to escape. These strange little birds would be a great companion for a Logician, someone who loves to make others think and question their biases. They're also known for their unusual solutions to problems.

ESTP - Jarvey

Jarvies look almost exactly like overgrown ferrets and could easily be mistaken for one if not for its propensity to shout rude words at people. A creature capable of limited human speech is appropriate for our first extrovert-type on the list. They would be a great partner for an Entrepreneur, as someone who feels most at home in the center of attention and loves to make people laugh.

ESFP - Mooncalf

This type is known as the Entertainer and are perhaps the most spontaneous of all types. As they're extremely sociable and most likely break into song and dance, they would probably get along well with a mooncalf. Mooncalves at first seem shy, but in reality they're part of a large herd and love to be around their own kind. They also emerge under the moonlight to have large, intricate dances that our Entertainer could happily join.

ENFP - Niffler

Nifflers have become the face of the Fantastic Beasts series, mostly because they're absolutely adorable. They're little furry platypus-things with an intense love of gold and shiny objects. Their personality matches well with a Campaigner.

They're ready and willing to risk it all to fulfill their dreams and satisfy the longing in their hearts. They both will single-mindedly pursue what makes them happy; just remember to put the jewelry away.

ENTP - Pixie

The Debater is extremely skilled at play devil's advocate, arguing both sides of an argument for the fun of sparring with an opponent and shredding ineffective arguments. They're not here to prove their point, but to have fun. They're always testing their limits and exploring new ideas. The addition of a mischief-making pixie would make them an unstoppable duo. Pixies are always looking for a way to cause some good-natured havoc.

ESTJ - Sphinx

Sphinxes are highly intelligent, as they're capable of human speech and have a well-known love of riddles and puzzles. It would probably be less of a pet and more of a roommate. They've often been employed in the guarding of treasure and, while it can be dangerous, it's usually only when its charge is threatened. They would get along well with an Executive, the ultimate representatives of order and tradition. They make excellent leaders with their values of honesty and dedication.

ESFJ - Occamy

Consuls are most at home playing host to their friends and neighbors. They thrive in social situations and love to gather gossip, though they're very concerned with using their powers for good. They want to help strengthen others through social bonds and are very accommodating. They would do well alongside an Occamy, a long-winged serpentine creature with the unique ability to grow or shrink to fill the available space, making them the ultimate accommodators.

ENFJ - Phoenix

Phoenixes are so rare that it's sometimes said there's only ever one in existence. When one dies, it bursts into flame and reforms as an egg among the embers, waiting to be reborn. They're intensely magical, but also gentle and intelligent.

Unsurprisingly, they would be a perfect companion for the type known as the Protagonist. They are natural born leaders, guided by passion and charisma and hoping to reach out into the world and make a difference.

ENTJ - Erumpent

Erumpents originated in Africa and somewhat resemble a massive rhinoceros with a huge, volatile horn. The horn is filled with a unique fluid that causes anything it's injected in to explode. Their hides are also very thick and resistant to most magic. These indomitable and intimidating beasts make excellent partners for Commanders. These personalities radiate authority and use their unstoppable drive to achieve their goals, though they can sometimes be overwhelming.
