One Harry Potter fan has created a face mask that's a real life Marauder's Map. It seems that regardless of how many years pass, the influence and relevance of J.K. Rowling’s seven book, eight film series will always find a way to continue to be celebrated by fans around the world. The vast success of the boy wizard saga has endured ever since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone arrived in bookstores back in 1997. The book series came to an end in 2007, and the film series completed its journey with Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
However, more stories from the Wizarding World continue to arrive via Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spinoff. So far, the new franchise hasn’t found the same degree of success as Harry Potter has, but it has been able to forge its own level of popularity, nonetheless. The third installment in the franchise was set to begin filming this past March, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, Warner Bros. was forced to cancel production for the time being. This was a definite disappointment to fans of the franchise, but unfortunately, one that could not be avoided. Now, as the world attempts to adapt to a new sort of normal as a result of the pandemic, it seems even during challenging and often frightening times such as these, the Wizarding World still has its place.
The latest indication of this is a face mask created by TikTok user Coloradopex. What looks like a standard black face mask actually reveals itself as a version of the Marauder’s Map, once worn. As can be seen in the video, the mask’s material reacts to heat – in this case provided by breath, which then gradually illuminates the pattern, which happens to be of the map. It’s a great way to stay safe during these difficult times while referencing one of Harry Potter’s most valued items at Hogwarts.

The Marauder’s Map made its first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – the third installment of the Potter series. Created by Harry’s father James, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black during their time as students at Hogwarts, the map was given to Harry by the Weasley brothers. Without the proper knowledge of how to operate the map, it simply appears to be a basic piece of parchment. However, when the secret spell is recited, the parchment reveals itself to be a map of Hogwarts, which details every room and the location of each current inhabitant. To see the concept get carried over into a mask is not only fun, but very creative as well – especially since masks are now highly sought after.
Whether or not the Marauder’s Map mask is of medical grade can’t presently be confirmed, but judging by the material and the manner in which it rests on the face, it certainly looks to be perfectly suitable. With numerous cities around the world currently making the wearing of masks mandatory in public, some people seem to be looking for a way to set themselves apart from others. The increased demand for masks has already seen the non-medical grade plastic replica mask worn by DC comics villain Bane sell out at costume stores, so it likely won’t be long before Coloradopex experiences people asking for her Harry Potter Marauder’s Map masks.
