It's been over 20 years since the first films in both the Harry Potter franchise and The Lord of the Rings trilogy were released, but the love that fans have for both series hasn't waned in the slightest. The stories themselves are great, but the characters are what cause viewers to get so invested.

Both the Wizarding World and Middle-earth are full of delightful individuals that are exceptionally charming and likable. It's likely that these people would get along with anyone, but there are a few instances where they would almost positively form a unique bond with someone else. With that in mind, here are some of the great friendships that would form if Middle-earth and the Wizarding World came together.

Remus Lupin & Faramir

Remus Lupin & Faramir

It's almost impossible to find two characters that are more kind-hearted than Lupin and Faramir. They always have a gentle and encouraging word to share with others, but sometimes lack that same grace towards themselves.

These two gentlemen would certainly get along swimmingly, and they'd be able to help each other see their own value in the process. Additionally, though it's sad they had to endure difficult lives, the trauma they've both experienced is sure to bring them close together the more they open up.

Albus Dumbledore & Gandalf

Both of these legends are among the most powerful wizards ever imagined, and they have a desire to do good with their power. That responsibility is sure to cause moments of extreme loneliness for the both of them. The two of them would undoubtedly have much to ponder and discuss together.

As serious as they can be, it's not hard to imagine them sharing a laugh over some of the more ridiculous things they've encountered. The problems of young school children or naive Hobbits is sure to make them chuckle from time to time. However, their admiration for the courage and boldness of folk smaller than themselves is one of the concepts they would definitely connect on repeatedly.

Arthur Weasley & Pippin Took

Arthur Weasley & Pippin Took

Few characters in Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are as curious as Mr. Weasley and Pippin. Arthur's interest is most commonly piqued by non-magic folk; he loves the inventions of muggles. As for Peregrin, he has a general interest in anything that's new to him.

It stands to reason that these two individuals would have lots of questions for each other, and no shortage of fascinating experiences to share in response. Visiting each other's communities and homes would be one of the biggest highlights of their lives.

Minerva McGonagall & Elrond

These two are some of the most well-respected people in their worlds, and they are often times much more serious than their colleagues and acquaintances - although Professor McGonagall is quite sassy sometimes too. No-nonsense is usually the name of the game, and they hold others with that viewpoint in high regard.

If these two met, they'd have an undeniable mutual respect that would quickly form into a friendship. Their personalities are actually quite similar, and the knowledge they have of their areas of study runs deep. Sharing notes over a cup of tea or wine would likely become a favorite pastime of theirs.

Rubeus Hagrid & Treebeard

Hagrid and Treebeard both seem to either be in a particularly foul mood, or in a delightful and warm state; there is no in-between. If they manage to reflect each other's attitudes, they would be firm friends.

These two wonderful souls have a good number of things in common, but something that's very important to them is their love of nature and wild beasts. Whether they strolled through the Forbidden Forest or traveled through Fangorn, they would have so much to enjoy and discuss. They'd probably even spend some time talking about the difficulties that come with being individuals of very large stature.

Neville Longbottom & Samwise Gamgee

While they certainly aren't the epitome of cool, Neville and Sam have a lot to be proud of themselves for. They've both risen above the expectations others have had for them, thanks to their sheer hard work and determination. Upon recognizing that in each other, they are sure to develop a deep level of mutual respect.

Passions are where the deepest bonds form though, and luckily for these two, they both share a love of things that grow. Neville dedicates much of his study to herbology, while Sam is a marvelous gardener for the Baggins family. Between the two of them, there could be volumes upon volumes of books written about plant life.

Severus Snape & Denethor

Neither one of them are particularly friendly by nature, but even the most bitter and cold people need someone they can call a friend. Snape and Denethor would almost certainly spend much of their time together talking about the incompetence of others. It wouldn't make for the healthiest of friendships, but it's better than being left alone with negative thoughts.

What would help them, though, is if they opened up to each other about their painful experiences in life. Free therapy between friends is a great thing, and they have a lot to talk about. Snape was bullied for years and Lily's death was one of the worst things to happen to Severus. As for Denethor, the loss of Boromir and the fact that he'll always be overshadowed by the throne he sits next to are things he must work through.

Horace Slughorn & Gimli

Slughorn and Gimli are a couple of merry fellows, when put in the right circumstances. A bit of food and a hearty drink sets them in a good mood almost immediately. They'd certainly be frequent visitors at the pubs and mead halls.

Slughorn loves gossip and a good story, and Gimli has plenty of stories to tell - often grand and perhaps more than a little embellished. Gimli's definitely too old to be considered for admittance into the Slug Club, but that wouldn't stop Slughorn from inviting him as an honored guest.

Garrick Ollivander & Bilbo Baggins

These gray-haired men haven't lost interest in their area of expertise as they've aged. Ollivander knows as much about wands as he ever did, and his passion is as strong as anyone's for wand lore. As for Bilbo, he greatly enjoys poetry and writing, and it's something he gets to work a lot on during his stay in Rivendell.

The stories these two gentlemen could share with each other would be of great mutual interest. The wisdom they've gained throughout their long lives would be a gift to overhear for anyone who were to pass by as the two conversed. Of course, Bilbo would likely make everything available in a book release at some point.

Aberforth Dumbledore & Théoden

Aberforth Dumbledore & Théoden

There are not many people in the Wizarding World or Middle-earth as stern and grim as these two men. They've both experienced great pain in their own lives, and it's made them somewhat bitter.

Neither man has any great deal of hope in the world, but their bitterness would likely be broken down the more they get to know each other. Théoden of course lost his son (and his brother much earlier), while Aberforth's sister died very young. That type of trauma often leads people to search for understanding in others, and that's something both men can grant. Hopefully their pain and sorrow would soon turn to joy and laughter as they bond.
