There are many differences between Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, but there are also many things these two stories have in common. To being with, they are both stories about teenagers having to face bigoted and tyrannical societies. They are also two for the most successful YA book series ever.

Because of all the things they have in common, it’s interesting to look at how characters from their own story might act if they were placed into the world of the others. So, we’ve put together a list of The Hunger Games characters and what they would excel in if they went to Hogwarts.

President Coin: Headmaster of Hogwarts

Alma Coin looking serious In The Hunger Games Franchise

While President Coin might not be a completely good character, this would make sense given that not all Headmasters of Hogwarts are always good.

In fact, in some ways, she’s like Dumbledore because she seems to be completely on the side of good at the start but is more manipulative than she seems. She might not be a great leader of the school, but she would likely have a leadership position there.

Finnick Odair: Quidditch

Finnick is another character who is much more than meets the eye. While he seems like just a handsome, charming, playboy, he’s actually someone who’s been through a lot but is a good person through it all.

However, given his outward persona, it would make sense if he was the popular jock type while at school who would excel at Quidditch.

Cinna: Transfiguration Professor

Lenny Kravitz as Cinna

Cinna is one of the most influential people in the Capital and in Katniss’ life. He’s both extremely good-hearted and revolutionary as well as creative and inventive.

So, it would make sense that he would teach a subject that’s all about transformation. He’s the one who was always making clothes that could transform in magnificent ways, and it’s really because of him that Katniss began to transfigure into the symbol of the Mockingjay.

Effie Trinket: The Slug Club

If Effie was in the wizarding world, during her time at Hogwarts she would likely have been obsessed with success and fame. She always wanted to be important and was always worried about her appearance and how she came across.

As such, she would probably love something like the Slug Club and would do everything she could to be included. She would definitely take it more seriously than any other student.

Beetee: Potions

Beetee in Hunger Games: Mockingjay

While in The Hunger Games Beetee is a tech genius who works with computers and such, this translates into something like potions in the wizarding world.

Witches and wizards don’t really use technology, but potions is a subject that requires a lot of skill and precision as well as a sharp mind. It’s also something that people tend to do on their own, so it lends itself to a more introverted personality.

Primrose Everdeen: Charms

Primrose Everdeen from The Hunger Games movies

Primrose would likely end up trying to be a healer as this is what she did in the world of Panem. So, at Hogwarts, it would make sense if she was most interested and good at Charms.

This subject is one of the most flexible and is likely where intro healing spells are taught. She would definitely do good at any spell that requires helping or others or cheering them up.

Haymitch Abernathy: Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor

The Hunger Games Haymitch Writing Board

Haymitch might not really want to be a mentor for the Tributes from District 12, but he does do the job because he has no other choice. Because of his role helping Tributes, and then eventually helping in the rebellion against the Capitol, he would make a good Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

While he might not seem like a very good mentor at first, he does come to care about his students and their well-being. And his way of interacting is often for their greater good.

Gale Hawthorne: Defense Against the Dark Arts

While other characters, especially Katniss, are put in roles of fighting back against the evil of Panem and the government there, Gale is the one who always felt called to do this.

Unlike Katniss who ended up in the role reluctantly as a way to save her family, Gale was always looking to fight back against the Capital. As such, he would be the one who took this subject super seriously.

Peeta Mellark: Herbology

If there was a Hogwarts class centered around cooking or creativity, Peeta would definitely belong there. But, since there’s not, a different subject that also requires attentiveness, gentleness and intellect makes the most sense.

He would likely enjoy learning about plants and unwinding by gardening and learning how to help others using plants.

Katniss Everdeen: Transfiguration

While Katniss would definitely also excel at Defense Against the Dark Arts, she would also do well in really underrated subjects like Transfiguration.

This is one of the most difficult branches of magic, and in many ways, Katniss is someone who transforms a lot in the series. She’s intelligent, strong, and surprising just like the subject of Transfiguration.
