The upcoming video game Hogwarts Legacy will give fans the long-awaited opportunity to attend Hogwarts school as an actual student, get sorted into a house, and attend classes. This is a dream come true for many, who have fantasized about attending the old school for witches and wizards since the first time they read or watched Harry Potter. Now, with an expected release date in December, the moment is nearly here.

However, as it turns out, not all Harry Potter fans are as fond of the old castle as expected. Every school, even magical ones, has flaws, and according to some audiences on Reddit, Hogwarts is no exception. Some fans have shared that they have some less than popular opinions about the old castle, from the hiring practices all the way down to the class exams.

Hiring A Squib As Caretaker Was Cruel

Argus Filch in Harry Potter

Hogwarts is a massive seven-story castle full of magical children. It can be expected that there would not only be a variety of everyday messes but some of the magical kind as well. Despite this, Argus Filch, a Squib with no magical powers, was hired as the caretaker.

Redditor Valenme96 found this cruel, saying they "hate that Filch was a janitor in one of the most undisciplined and messy magical schools." Someone with magical capabilities could have cleaned the school up with the wave of a wand, but Filch was forced to clean all on his own the old-fashioned way. Of course, Filch was not forced to do the job, so perhaps he actually enjoyed it.

The House Point System Makes No Sense

Students at Hogwarts are often motivated to win the House Cup at the end of the year, and the way to do this is by earning points by answering questions correctly in class or otherwise performing a variety of good deeds. However, Redditor Math2ndperiod feels that the point system in Harry Potter doesn't make much sense.

"[It's] entirely arbitrary," they said, "and subject to blatant favoritism." Teachers like Snape have been known to dole out points to Slytherins and take them away from Gryffindors. There might be something to this opinion, as even Dumbledore is known to abuse the system.

Most Of The Teachers Are Bad At Their Jobs

The Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers at Hogwarts are notorious for being horrible. Every year, Harry and co. had to deal with someone new, and other than Lupin, these teachers consistently failed them.

However, Math2ndperiod feels that most of the regular professors at Hogwarts in Harry Potter had no business teaching as well. "Half the teachers are terrible," they said, citing Binns, Hagrid, Trelawney, and Snape as examples. While most of the teachers seemed to do their best, it does seem true that many had major faults.

The Hogwarts Exams Have No Point

At the end of every year at Hogwarts, the students busy themselves with preparing for exams. It always seems like a very stressful time, especially for Hermione, who takes her marks very seriously.

However, one Reddit user pointed out that "there were literally no exams in multiple school years." If the exams were so easy to cancel year after year with no issue, then why were they necessary to begin with? It might have just been that the years Harry attended school were a little out of the norm, but it still seems like the exams were a bit of a joke.

Hogwarts Needed More Parent Involvement

Harry Potter Draco and Lucius Malfoy

Year after year, Draco Malfoy, the quintessential Slytherin in Harry Potter, threatened to tell his father about what was happening at school. Most of the time, this was seen as the words of a spoiled boy who just wanted his dad to fix all his problems. However, with all the chaos that seemed to happen at the school, some fans have started to think that Malfoy had the right idea.

Redditor TCeies said, "Hogwarts would've been a much safer place if there had been more 'I will tell my father about this' kids in school." The phrase might come off a little bit pampered, but there are some things that parents really should get involved in.

The House System Is Prejudiced

Students attending Hogwarts are sorted into houses based on their personalities. This is seen as a tried and true way to put the students into families that share their values, but it could also be seen as an easy way to segregate and discriminate against certain groups.

Redditor Hsvh_hp pointed out that Slytherins are often "paying the price" for the actions of dark witches and wizards. Hufflepuffs are teased for having no specific talent, and Ravenclaws for being brainy. In the end, Gryffindor always seems to come out on top. Maybe the Slytherins aren't far off in their resentment after all.

Dumbledore Was The Worst Thing To Happen At Hogwarts

When Draco Malfoy announced that Dumbledore was the worst thing to happen to Hogwarts in Chamber of Secrets, Harry responded with outrage. However, years later, some fans have started to actually agree with Draco.

Redditor Nailu6190 shared that they "hate to agree with Malfoy," but that Dumbledore's time as headmaster was "riddled by mismanagement." The school was infiltrated by Death Eaters twice, and students came near to death on several occasions — and literal death in Cedric Diggory's case. This is only made worse because Dumbledore often knew what was going on and did nothing but try to teach arbitrary life lessons in Harry Potter.

The Ministry's Interference Was Smart

Nothing was more frustrating than the moment Dolores Umbridge came to Hogwarts and started changing the way things were run. Harry and the other students hated it, and everyone knew that the Ministry of Magic was just trying to control Dumbledore. However, Redditor 3Batata had the unpopular opinion that Fudge had the right idea of sending someone to the castle to keep an eye on things.

"The Ministry's decision to keep a close eye on Hogwarts was actually quite logical," they said. With all the dangers that had been going on and the doubt that Dumbledore and Harry were being honest, seeing what was going on at Hogwarts wasn't a bad idea. But maybe it shouldn't have been Dolores Umbridge.
