While Ron and Hermione might be viewed as the main couple from the Harry Potter series, the relationship between Harry and Ginny is also an important one. As the main character, many fans were always interested in who he would end up dating and marrying. While it would have been hard to guess in the early books that he would fall in love with Ginny, the last few books built up their relationship.

However, while there are many reasons why Harry and Ginny make a great match and seem perfect for one another, there are also valid arguments for why they don’t make sense at all.

Soulmates: Ginny Was Also Committed To Fighting Against Voldemort

Harry basically had almost no choice in dedicating his life, even from just eleven years of age, to fighting back against Voldemort. While the fact that he was the Chosen One made his fight against Voldemort extremely personal and intense, there were many other people who were also doing everything they could to help.

While Ginny never got the chance to do as much since she was younger, she did fight in the Battle of Hogwarts and was committed to the cause.

Awful Together: Harry Didn’t Even Notice Ginny As A Friend For A Long Time

For a long time, Harry barely noticed Ginny as more than just Ron’s younger sister. While he didn't dislike her or anything, he definitely didn’t have romantic feelings or even really worry about trying to be friends with her.

Since Harry was young, it’s not that weird that he changed his mind about Ginny later, but it does make them seem less like soulmates.

Soulmates: They Actually Spent Years Getting To Know One Another

On the one hand, it can feel like the relationship between Harry and Ginny came out of nowhere, but on a close examination, there is a good deal of build-up to their relationship.

While Harry might not have been interested in her romantically for years, they spent a lot of time together when Harry would stay at the Burrow. This allowed them to casually interact and learn things about one another over the years.

Awful Together: Their Feelings For One Another Seemed A Bit Lopsided

One thing about Ginny and Harry’s relationship that makes them seem less than perfect for one another is that Ginny always seemed to care more about Harry than he cared about her.

She had a huge crush on Harry for a long time, and, while she did get over that as she grew up, it does seem like she was more focused on the relationship than Harry ever was.

Soulmates: They Got Along Really Well

While fans didn’t really get to see much of these two interacting with one another as romance isn't the focus of the series, what fans did see was rather endearing. They seemed to get along extremely well.

They never really fought, and Harry clearly loved the few moments they were able to spend alone together.

Awful Together: Harry Could Be A Little Self-Absorbed

On the one hand, the fact that Harry was a little caught up in his own life is incredibly understandable. He was just a teenager who basically had the fate of the entire wizarding world on his shoulders.

On the other hand, even in more stable times, he often was extremely caught up in what was going on with his own life. It would be difficult in some ways to date him because you'd always be dealing with his fame, too.

Soulmates: Harry Was A Perfect Fit In The Weasley Family

One of the most adorable things about these two as a couple is that it makes a lot of sense for Harry’s story. He was basically already a member of the Weasley family, but to be connected officially through marriage does have a nice symbolism to it.

Having Harry be so loved by her family would also be a good thing for Ginny as it would allow them to have a very happy life together with the love and support of extended family.

Awful Together: Harry Didn’t Tell Ginny Much About What Was Going On With Voldemort

One thing that many fans always felt was weird about their relationship was how Ginny wasn’t ever privy to much of what Harry was actually doing.

Despite Ginny showing she was committed to the cause by joining Dumbledore’s Army and even restarting it in Harry’s absence, he kept most things a secret from her. While Dumbledore might have told him to, it does still seem silly to keep information from her, in a way.

Soulmates: Ginny Had A Strong Personality To Rival Harry’s

Harry wouldn’t necessarily be an easy person to date. His celebrity status combined with the heavy burden he carried as the Chosen One would be a lot to handle, even if it’s not his fault.

On top of that, he could be a very intense and emotional person. Ginny had a strong personality but was also much more stable which would provide a great balance.

Awful Together: Harry Left Ginny Behind On The Horcrux Hunt

Another of the worst moments in their relationship is when Harry breaks up with her because he has to go hunt for the Horcruxes.

Then, Ginny basically gives him a goodbye kiss at the Burrow and seems to be put into the role of a damsel waiting for the hero to return. While Harry wanted to keep her safe, it would have made sense if she came with them him, Ron, and Hermione.
