In the last couple of years, many successful book franchises have made their way into TV series adaptations like Game of Thrones, House of Dragon, and The Rings of Power, and many wondered if it would ever be the same for the Wizarding World. After the disappointing last movies of Fantastic Beasts, a new feature or piece of the Wizarding World seemed necessary, and fortunately, some rumors point out that a Harry Potter spin-off series is in the making (Via Daily Mail). It's been 25 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released, but there are still many Potterheads that celebrate the adventures of the boy who lived. Everything started that cursed night in Godric's Hollow, where the death of Lily and James Potter lead Dumbledore to leave Harry on the Dursleys' doorstep. As Minerva pointed out, they were the worst muggles, but some memes can hilariously sum them up.

They Are Harry's Guardians

The line may be from the popular romantic song by Carly Rae Jepsen, but Dumbledore could have perfectly used it to introduce himself to Petunia Dursley, letting her know that Lily had been murdered and delivering her now-orphan nephew.

Petunia was definitely not thrilled by the idea of adopting Harry and probably thought she didn't have another choice. Although, maybe she and Vernon had a tiny soft spot for Harry and decided to take him in, despite hating his wizard parents.

They Were The Only Family Harry Had

"You didn't just lose a mother that night in Godric's Hollow, you know. I lost a sister" is one of the Durley's best quotes. It was said by Petunia, and it proved that regardless of her jealousy toward her sister Lily, deep down, she still loved her.

Her love for her sister, and knowing that they were the only family he had probably drove her to take care of Harry, in spite of not wanting another boy in her house. The Durley's main intentions may have been good, but still, as McGonagall once said, they were "the worst sort of muggles imaginable" and were as horrifying as Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites.

They Don't Want Anything To Do With The Potters

There are many terrible facts about the Dursley's the movies left out that show how negligent - even abusive - the Dursleys were towards Potter. One of the worst things they did was hide the truth from Harry about how his parents died and how the Dursleys became his custodians.

When Harry received his Hogwarts acceptance letter and Hagrid arrived to give it to him, Harry didn't know who Hagrid was. Even though he was the one that rescued him from the ruins of Godric's Hollow. Therefore, Hagrid confused Harry with Dudley. Hilariously so, Dudley had to clear up that he wasn't Harry, although the real actor's name is, in fact, Harry Melling.

Some Think They Are Good Guys

For some Potterheads -probably the ones that had only watched the films - the Dursleys are the most misunderstood movie characters because they took Harry in and didn't want him to get involved in the Wizarding World for his own safety.

However, it is probable that they didn't want him to get involved with magic not to protect him, but to protect themselves. Also, if that would have been the case, there were better ways of expressing that they wanted to keep him safe, and nothing really justifies their abusive behavior towards Potter.

They Didn't Treat Harry As A Human Being

If the Dursleys would have been playing a game of UNO, they would have preferred to keep all their cards than to draw 25 in exchange for treating Harry with some dignity. The Dursleys didn't treat Harry as a human, and it probably was because they didn't see him as one.

After all, he was a wizard, and for Petunia, wizards had always been freaks of nature. It was not different for Vernon, who after marrying Petunia learned about the Wizarding World and hated it just as much as his beloved.

Thought Harry Should Be Grateful

The Dursleys gave fans many of the most cringe-worthy parts in the movies given that their cruel attitude toward Potter and their very spoiled son's behavior were especially painful to watch. Amongst their most unbearable traits, one that stood out the most was how they felt entitled to treat Potter poorly.

Because they gave him a place to stay, fed him, and gave him other things, they felt Harry should be grateful to them and their "giving" nature. If they had written the books or produced any of the Harry Potter films, they would have probably named it The Dursleys and the Ungrateful Nephew.

Wealthy

They were not as rich as the Malfoys; however, the Dursleys had enough money to buy Dudley 36 birthday presents, which is more than most families can afford. Vernon was the director of his own company and cared a lot about social and economical statuses.

He judged people's cars and clothes, among other stuff that proved how despicable he was as a human being. The family's obsession with material things unsurprisingly drove Dudley into being an ungrateful and spoiled brat that was never satisfied, which this meme accurately reminds fans of.

They Had Redeemable Aspects

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, audiences saw how the Dursleys had to leave their house in order to be safe from Death Eaters. At this moment viewers got to see for the first time a side of the family that proved they weren't as evil as most thought.

Petunia showed that the loss of her sister Lily had affected her deeply, and although this scene was kept for the final cut of the film, another one where Dursley tells Harry he doesn't think he is a waste of space like his parents had previously said countless times, was left out and can only be seen in the extended edition. Most fans couldn't forgive this decision was made.

Just As Bad As The Malfoys

Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy are comparable to Vernon and Petunia Dursley. The only thing that differentiates them is that one couple hates muggles and the other one hates wizards, but in the end, they both hate people because of baseless reasons.

Another thing that makes them really similar is that they both raised children who couldn't help but be bad. After all, how could they not be bullies when they were raised by them? However, both departed their parent's ways and had redeeming qualities, although the creator of this meme thinks Dudley is the only one who had them.

Appeared More In The Books Than In The Movies

The Potterheads that read the books know that the Dursleys appeared many more times in the books than they did in the movies, although that is true for many other characters as well. However, Dudley is the character that is definitely more likely to throw a tantrum about it, as the meme depicts.

Although to be fair, he would only have been outraged by the fact that he only appeared in five of the eight movies when he was a very young boy. When he grew up and was saved by Harry from the Dementors, he changed completely as a human being and showed promising signs of becoming a wonderful young man.
