ABC Family held a Harry Potter movie festival over the recent holiday weekend and premiered several new behind-the-scenes featurettes that offer a glimpse at the franchise's concluding chapter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger one last time in the two-part finale of the Harry Potter franchise. The three have spent the last decade both acting and growing up in author J.K. Rowling's bestselling books-turned-blockbuster movie series, so it's good to see them finish their experience off properly.
Part 1 of Deathly Hallows finds the trio on a secret quest to find and destroy objects known as Horcruxes - which hold the key to Voldemort's existence - while the Dark Lord and his forces take control of the Wizarding World.
Part 2 will encompass the final battle between Voldemort's Death Eaters and the rest of the Wizarding community, which ensues at Hogwarts Castle - the aftermath of which is hinted at in the films' first teaser poster.
The first ABC clip offered a glimpse at the overarching narrative of the films, which continue the trend of having each new film in the series be significantly darker and more adult-oriented than its predecessors.
These additional featurettes (which you can check out below) focus more on the fact that Harry, Ron, and Hermione are essentially fugitives throughout most of Deathly Hallows - and the physically challenging tasks that the film's main stars had to undertake as a result.
Unlike the footage shown here, a good chunk of the material in the full Deathly Hallows trailer will not be seen by moviegoers until next summer when Part 2 arrives in theaters. The FX-driven action sequences look like they will be impressive, while the plot is shaping up to be quite engaging on an emotional level - so I think the final product will be well worth the buildup.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will be shown in regular, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters in the U.S. on November 19th, 2010, with Part 2 arriving on July 15th, 2011.
