Foreboding 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows' Character Banners

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 not in 3D

The penultimate entry in the best-selling literary series-turned-blockbuster film franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, arrives this November and promises to be an excellent lead-in to the climactic showdown between the forces of good and evil in Part 2, which arrives next summer.

A new trailer premiered last week for the seventh Harry Potter movie and it gave us a nice taste of just how dark in tone the final adventure with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) will be.  It also offered an early look at newcomers to the series, including esteemed English thespian Bill Nighy as the newly-appointed Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour.

Scrimgeour's reign at the Minstry of Magic will be all-too short-lived in Deathly Hallows: Part 1, as the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) soon takes control of the Wizarding government himself.  Harry and his companions are forced to flee to the countryside as fugitives, while at the same time tracking down and destroying the Horcruxes - i.e., the magical objects that hold the key to Voldemort's immortality.

Fans of J.K. Rowling's original novel are familiar with the intense atmosphere of fear and tension that will persist through the first Deathly Hallows movie.  The new character banners for the film not-so-subtly allude to the fact that Harry, Ron, and Hermione are quite literally always in danger of being captured by He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's forces - no matter where they go.

The gloomy cinematography of the Deathly Hallows footage we've glimpsed so far looks deliciously macabre and both halves of the two-part movie look to really amp up the action, suspense, and drama - even more than the sixth film, which was pretty dark in its own right.  So...who's excited? :-D

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 arrives in regular, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters on November 19th, 2010.  Part 2 will follow on July 15th, 2011.
