New Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising Board Game Coming This Fall

New Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising board game is coming this fall. Despite the wildly popular Harry Potter book series coming to an end over a decade ago, and the franchise of films it spawned making its final bow some  eight years ago, the Harry Potter IP remains just as much of a phenomenal hit as it ever was.

Most recently, Harry Potter’s cinematic world has expanded to include the J.K. Rowling-written Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series, which is currently two films in, with three remaining. The prequels have yet to garner the same degree of enthusiasm from fans as the Harry Potter films did, however it’s somewhat unfair to compare the two, as the main Harry Potter story spans seven books, while Fantastic Beasts is based entirely on one Rowling novella. The stories of the wizarding world continue to be turned into a variety of games, with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, having just been released to steady acclaim - proving yet again that Harry Potter fans simply can’t get enough of the wizarding world.

Fortunately for the huge number of fans worldwide, Harry Potter’s exploits are once again set to become playable. A new press release from board game maker USAopoly reveals that their latest board game title, Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising, will be released this fall. The new game is designed for 2-3 players and offers an estimated runtime between 45-60 minutes. It is the third Harry Potter related game to be released by USAopoly this year. You can check out a quick glimpse at the game in the video below from USAopoly’s YouTube channel:

Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising takes place during the events of the fifth novel, Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix. The game focuses around famed characters such as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore, Nymphadora Tonks, Sirius Black, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Alastor Moody, Mrs. Norris, Severus Snape and Rubeus Hagrid as they band together in order to fight the growing menace of dark wizardry. Using cards and dice, players will battle familiar evil wizards Bellatrix Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy, Peter Pettigrew and more in locations as diverse and iconic as the Ministry of Magic, the village of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, among others. And of course, there will be an ultimate showdown with You-Know-Who himself, Lord Voldemort, as players attempt to rid the wizarding world once and for all of the infamous dark wizard.

Though the Harry Potter franchise has seen its fair share of games in a host of different mediums, all too often these tend to disappoint because they fail to offer what fans really want: the ability to play in the wizarding world as the characters they’ve grown to love (or hate). Even when this has been possible in some titles, the plots of the games are never as memorable or immersive as the books that J.K. Rowling created years before. With Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising, however, it sounds like fans will actually be able to undertake their own missions in Dumbledore’s Army as well as the Order of the Phoenix, all while playing in some truly memorable locations.
