The Wizarding World continues to be quite popular, and while there are no official plans for a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, Tom Felton just made it less likely by sharing how he would like to work again with Daniel Radcliffe. Back in 1997, readers were introduced to the Wizarding World in J.K. Rowling’s debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first entry in what would become a successful series of seven books. The Harry Potter saga told the story of “The Boy Who Lived” and his battle against Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard of all who had destructive plans for both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds.

The Harry Potter saga was adapted to the big screen shortly after, with the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, released in 2011, but the Wizarding World hasn’t lost any popularity since then. The Harry Potter universe has continued expanding with in-universe guides and supplementary works, video games, theme parks, and a new movie series based on the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them guidebook. One of the most popular pieces of extended media from the Wizarding World is the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has been rumored to be on its way to being adapted to the big screen for a while now.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows and follows Harry’s younger son, Albus Severus Potter, during his time at Hogwarts. Albus Potter gets into trouble after messing with a time-turner, while Harry is now Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic. Although Cursed Child focuses on a younger generation of wizards, it features some of the main characters of the saga, such as Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, which means a movie adaptation of the play would be the best way to bring back Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton, but the latter has joked about switching places and playing the hero next time, making a Cursed Child adaptation less likely.

In an interview with Digital Spy while promoting his latest project, Felton discussed the possibility of working with Radcliffe again. Felton shared that he and Radcliffe have joked about, if they get to work together again, Radcliffe now being the villain and Felton the hero. While the adult Draco Malfoy seen in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has certainly learned from past mistakes and matured in different areas of his life, he still maintains an antagonistic vibe and some of his decisions and actions are still questionable, so he isn’t exactly a hero but more of an ally (but just because he has to be). Felton’s idea – whether a joke or not – would be fun to watch as it would be an interesting mirror of his and Radcliffe’s roles in the Harry Potter saga, but it wouldn’t be possible if a Cursed Child movie happens and plans to have the original actors back.

A movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been rumored to be in development since November 2021, when Chris Columbus (director of the first two movies in the Harry Potter series) expressed interest in directing a Cursed Child movie, with the intent of having the main cast reprise their roles. However, the main cast doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about it, with Radcliffe sharing he doesn’t intend to jump back into the Harry Potter role yet, but as always, his views on it, Felton’s idea of switching places, and Warner Bros’ plans for the Wizarding World could change and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child could have the main cast back, but only time will tell.
