If Ash, Lev Zubov's companion in Prime Video's The Peripheral, looks familiar, it is because the same actor was also in the Harry Potter films. Katie Leung has become as recognizable and compelling a character in The Peripheral as she was in Harry Potter. But her career is not limited to just those two popular franchises – there have been plenty of interesting projects and performances bookended by the two.

Leung is a Scottish actor of Chinese heritage who got her big break playing Cho Chang in five Harry Potter films. Cho was a pure-blood witch in Ravenclaw with a knack for Quidditch and a crush on Harry. While not a member of the core trio of friends, Cho is a memorable character with an important arc across the wizarding franchise. Since that series ended in 2011, Leung has enjoyed a varied filmography but recently returned to the Sci-Fi genre and quietly become a fan favorite on The Peripheral.

Katie Leung's The Peripheral Character, Ash, Explained

The Peripheral trailer

In The Peripheral's setting of a futuristic dystopia where gaming simulations are melded with android technology, Ash is an assistant to Lev Zubov. Zubov is one of The Peripheral's villains and a wealthy Russian businessman whose organization is at risk as a result of a branching timeline veering from his past. Though below Zubov in the hierarchy, Ash holds his respect and attention when making tough decisions. Ash serves as his voice of direction and strength in a scene where she implores Zubov to be more aggressive in his search for Aelita, the person they believe to be behind their recent misgivings. It is another role that, while not the main focus of the story, holds a significant influence over the show's main characters.

What Katie Leung Has Done Since Harry Potter

Caitlyn looking concerned in Arcane: League Of Legends.

Since Harry Potter came to a close, Leung has made a name for herself by starring as Caitlyn in the League of Legends-based Netflix series Arcane. Caitlyn is an innocent yet stubborn Enforcer making a name for herself removed from the complicated legacy of her parents. Leung has also held roles in the films Locked Down and T2: Trainspotting. Aside from Leung's part in The Peripheral time travel adventures, this year she will be starring as a detective in PBS crime-drama Annika on November 20th.

Leung has become more than just the love interest from Harry Potter or someone in Trainspotting 2 that looked a little familiar. She is a unique, charismatic performer with varied experience, from her younger days as a witch at Hogwarts to a troubled policewoman patrolling a fantasy city to a heartless businesswoman of a dystopian future simulation. She will, no doubt, continue to make an impact on Prime Video's The Peripheral.
