One story that will forever be a part of several generations of humanity is the Harry Potter series. Along with the magic and marvel that the characters embodied, they also taught important lessons of companionship, love, fraternity, and community (which every Harry Potter movie has in common). All the good guys fought together against the big bad Lord Voldemort, but one can't help but wonder what would it be like to live with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, and the others.

Fans may think that the evil characters would make bad roomies and the good ones would be better, but they would be surprised to learn that some of the most pure-hearted players in the franchise would be an absolute nightmare to live with. Here's how they rank, by the ability to live with others.

Great Roommates

Harry Potter

The hero of the books and movies would definitely be a breeze to live with. Harry had been brought up in a cupboard under the stairs, and getting a real room later in the Dursley home, and then the dorm at Hogwarts was a big luxury for him.

He enjoyed living with his Gryffindor mates, and was no stranger to doing household chores so he would contribute towards cooking, cleaning, and laundry equally if not more for his roommate. He may have some nightmares that might wake others at night, but it's a small con to overlook for an otherwise respectful roommate.

Ron Weasley

There are several fans who believe that Ron was the best wizard in Harry Potter, and while that may be debatable, his ability to share and live with others isn't. He may have had the tiniest bedroom in his house, but he never hesitated to bunk with Harry or even let Fred and George camp out with him when it was needed.

Even while Hermione, Harry, and Ron were living together in The Deathly Hallows, Ron was perfectly pleasant but only turned around because of the Horcrux he had with him. A big family made Ron used to living with others.

Hermione Granger

One of the many great and rare qualities one looks for in roommates is selflessness, which Hermione was the epitome of. She regularly made sacrifices for her friends, which included stepping in front of them to defend them (between Harry and Sirius), helping them with their homework, and staying with Harry despite her feelings for Ron in the last movie.

As a roommate, she would be committed to her lease and payments (she did fight for the house elves to be free and get wages), and even go out of her way to help her co-habitant. Hermione would be a model roommate, the same way she was good at everything else.

Sirius Black

Harry's godfather was one of the most pleasant, courageous, and lovely characters in the series. Despite being wrongfully imprisoned for thirteen years and being vilified by the whole world, he wasn't bitter to his loved ones about it (only to the ones who put him in Azkaban).

Sirius was eager to live with the last remaining family that he loved during Harry's breaks and possibly after his schooling, but those plans sadly never came to fruition. Sirius would be warm and loving as a roommate and even provide extra security and protection when he turned into a dog. A great companion to have.

Neville Longbottom

The unexpectedly heroic Neville, who could have easily defeated Voldemort, had a difficult life from the very beginning. After his parents were taken from him cruelly because of Voldemort's repeated Cruciatus curse, he was left with his batty grandmother who annoyed him to bits.

Neville longed for friends and companions his age who would be kind and gentle with him, so he would be really calming to live with. In the event of an emergency, his quick wits (which only developed a little later in the series) would keep everyone in the house safe.

Terrible Roommates

Draco Malfoy

All the Malfoys were generationally wealthy, and Draco was definitely an evil wizard (with some redeeming qualities) who would look down on the idea of rooming with anyone at all. His disdain and condescension for anybody apart from his own family and kind were off-putting, and his spoilt self would make for a terrible roommate.

If there were any disagreements, Draco would threaten his roommate with Lucius and his power, hog all the good stuff in the fridge, and make life very uncomfortable for them. Best to steer clear.

Rubeus Hagrid

Compassionate and loving towards animals, this exact quality would make sweet Hagrid an awful roommate. He was caring for others, especially his three favorite students, but an apartment with Hagrid would always be full of new animals that would be hard to care for, suspicious bloodstains, and be very messy in general.

For roommates who like cleanliness and hygiene, Hagrid should be the last choice to live with. Moreover, his giant genes would require a bigger home and a lot of extra space which may be tough.

Albus Dumbledore

Perhaps the wisest and most powerful wizard of all time, Dumbledore would be a seriously irritating roommate to have. With his secret alliances with unsavory characters in his youth (Gellert Grindelwald) and his disregard towards his own siblings in his pursuit for greatness, it's easy to see why he would not be an ideal living partner.

His phoenix, Pensieve, books, and other magical knick-knacks would crowd up the space immensely, and even shock roommates with the bursts of fire and sparks. Dumbledore was a lone wolf and he functioned well that way.

Dudley Dursley

Dudley looks angry in Harry Potter.

Another extremely spoiled child, Dudley was an absolute menace to his own parents and Harry in a large home, so it's scary to imagine what he would do to somebody in the same room as him. Used to getting what he wanted at the stomp of a foot, and being extremely privileged, he would be very averse to sharing.

His bullying nature also made him an unsavory person to be around, and Dudley would squeeze his roommate dry with regards to space, money, and supplies, without a doubt.

Tom Riddle/ Lord Voldemort

As an adolescent and as an adult, Voldemort was odd and menacing. Children were scared of him at the orphanage, and his penchant towards the Dark Arts made him automatically dangerous to be around. With a slew of threatening servants, friends, and snakes, he would actually be a lethal roommate to have.

Disagreements would be a no-no, and should there be one it would end badly for the other person (read: the green sparks of Unforgivable Curses).
