While the Harry Potter series is a sprawling epic about good versus evil, many fans associate the stories with both Halloween and Christmastime. There are great holiday scenes in both the books and the films, so it’s easy to imagine spending Christmas at Hogwarts or the Burrow and what that would be like.

It can also be fun for fans to imagine what it might be like to spend part of their own holiday celebrations with some their favorite characters from the series, and, while everyone has their favorite characters, some of them would make better party guests than others. Of course, the villains wouldn’t be great to have around, so they aren’t included on this list.

Terrible: Percy Weasley

Percy Weasley in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

While most of the Weasley family would be great to have around, Percy Weasley is the exception. His siblings can all have a good time and enjoy themselves to one degree or another, but Percy is usually stuck up and boring.

He would talk everyone's ears off about things like cauldron bottoms, and he can also be judgemental of the life choices of others.

Invite: Luna Lovegood

Luna's Christmas dress

Luna Lovegood is a lovely and eccentric guest to invite to all kinds of gatherings. She likes to have fun, and she’d probably wear an eye-catching and unique outfit.

While she might often be in her own world, she does love her friends, and she doesn’t mind dancing and letting loose. She would be interesting to talk to, and overall, she’s a kind, good person.

Terrible: Sirius Black

While Sirius Black is a really interesting character with a fascinating life story, he can be a bit of a downer. Even though he’s a fan-favorite, he’s generally kind of moody.

So, if he happened to be in a good mood, he could be a nice guest. However, if he was upset about something, he would likely mope in a corner and make others around him feel bad. But, on the other hand, hearing him sing “God Rest Ye Merry Hippogriffs” would be fun.

Invite: Fred and George Weasley

Fred and George might be off your guest list if you’re planning a ritzy, classy gathering where you don’t want anything to go wrong. However, if you’re looking for entertainment and a good time, they are good guests.

These two would likely bring all kinds of joke products, pranks, and sweets to your event. And, for the most part, these would all be fun to watch and enjoy. As long as you didn’t get on their bad side, they would be professionals and put on a great show.

Terrible: Dumbledore

Dumbledore Harry Potter

At face value, Dumbledore might not seem like an awful guest as there are times when he can be charming, and he does seem to enjoy the holidays. However, he is also way too secretive and prone to disappearing.

There’s always the risk that he wouldn’t show up at all or that he would arrive very late. He just is way too unreliable and lost in his own problems to be fun. Not to mention all the awful things he's done in his life make him seem less than great to be around.

Invite: Neville Longbottom

Neville isn’t generally the most exciting or fun person, but he would still be a good guest. He’s a good person who is nice to others, and he would appreciate being invited.

While he might not bring the jokes and entertainment, he would be respectful and helpful. Plus, it would be worth it just to offer him an opportunity to enjoy himself in a safe environment.

Terrible: Severus Snape

Since Snape isn’t a bad guy, although he might not be the best person, he’s on this list. But, he definitely shouldn’t be invited to any kind of holiday celebration. Snape doesn’t really enjoy having fun. He’s always uptight and a bit angry, and he’s also just mean and snide.

There are very few people who he actually likes, and he’s not really the party type, He seems like, overall, that he’d be more of a “bah, humbug” kind of person about the holidays.

Invite: Hagrid

When inviting Hagrid, you’d have to accept the risk that he’s going to bring some cakes to the party that no one will enjoy eating. However, at least he tries. He’s good-natured and would want to help, and he would enjoy the festivities and getting a little tipsy.

Just make sure that he doesn't have too much to drink, and he’ll be a great guest. He'd also help with the tree.

Terrible: Gilderoy Lockhart

While most of the Defense Against the Dark Arts professors turned out to be evil, Lockhart was just a run-of-the-mill loser and fraud. However, even before his memory got destroyed, he would have been a horrible guest.

He is so full of himself, and he would have told lots of fake, narcissistic stories about his own accomplishments. Lockhart would for sure try to make any party all about him and his own looks and fame.

Invite: Harry, Ron, Hermione

Of course, no Harry Potter party is complete without the Golden Trio. While they have their moments of moodiness or immaturity, they can have a good time.

They all have moments together where they enjoy a Christmas party at the Burrow or at Hogwarts, and they’d mostly be fun to talk to and interact with. Ginny would also be there, too, of course.
