Recent news that new Harry Potter films might be on the way (via Variety) has given fans a huge dose of excitement for a return to the beloved wizarding world. It's been over a decade since Potterheads were last able to gain new insight into the day-to-day life of their favorite wizards and witches at Hogwarts.
One of most popular aspects of the Harry Potter franchise has always been Hogwarts. Harry Potter fans can't help but imagine what it would be like to walk the famed wizarding academy's halls and explore every nook and cranny that the ancient mysterious structure offers. As a matter of fact, this fantastical desire is so popular that Redditors have gotten together to list the rooms in Hogwarts that they would most like to hang out in. Some Redditors came back with responses that were a bit cheeky and don't exactly fall under the category of Hogwarts rooms per se, but all are connected to Hogwarts in one way or another.
The Library
There are innumerable mysterious areas of Hogwarts, and Potterheads everywhere have long since fantasized about discovering them all. For Redditor Toasted_silver, they would like to explore a very popular Hogwarts location, saying the “Library" due to "there being so many books that I might not be able to use otherwise.”
The Harry Potter films and books gave fans glimpses of the Hogwarts library, and while it’s a beautiful place, the real thrills lie in the restricted books section. It’s here where the most bizarre and downright dangerous spell books can be found. But even if they can’t get into this section, the Hogwarts library undoubtedly has plenty of other fascinating books on offer.
Hagrid’s Hut
For some fans, Hagrid and his little cabin were a welcome and cozy respite from day-to-day shenanigans at Hogwarts. Redditor keanuisbea is one such fan, saying, “HAGRIDS HUT, I would love to hang out with hagrid, drink some tea "attempt" to eat his rock cakes and learn about magical creatures.”
Hagrid remains one of the most endearing characters in the Harry Potter franchise, and there’s no better way to really enjoy his company than to visit his hut. Time spent here could easily alleviate the daily stresses of school and, as everyone knows, Hagrid is always good for a funny story or two – as well as the odd secret he wasn’t supposed to divulge.
The Shrieking Shack
For most people in the wizarding world, the Shrieking Shack was a place that one dared not venture into. This meant that it was often deserted – something that Redditor Ann_adore acknowledges with their pick for a Hogwarts hangout by stating, “Shrieking shack, for privacy.”
Though technically not situated on the Hogwarts grounds, an entrance to the shack could be found via the Whomping Willow. The shack was originally used for Remus Lupin to escape to on full moon nights when he would transform into a werewolf. Because of its haunted reputation, Hogsmeade residents and everyone else stayed clear, leaving it vacant.
The Quidditch Pitch
Arguably one of the most divisive aspects of the wizarding world is Quidditch. For some, it’s a marvelous sport that they just can’t get enough of. For others, it’s just plain tedious. Redditor Firm_Earth_5698 is of the former opinion, saying, “Quidditch pitch. I would start a broom racing league.”
Regardless of how Potterheads feel about Quidditch, the idea of hanging out on the pitch and flying around on brooms sounds like a pretty fun way to spend some time. It’s certainly one of the best past times that Hogwarts could potentially offer, and the idea of setting up a broom racing league is a new aspect to an already great wizarding world staple.
The Grounds
From the first moments of opening a Harry Potter book and seeing the map of the Hogwarts grounds, fans immediately took to this wonderful locale. Redditor Mountain-Inside5391 says, “It sounds really comforting to look at Scottish highlands and at whatever-in-the-Merlin's-beard was in the lake.”
There are so many mysteries to be explored on the Hogwart’s grounds – some of which are probably best left alone, particularly within the Forbidden Forest. However, just because the Hogwarts grounds have the odd bit of danger doesn’t mean that they don’t have innumerable rewarding aspects to them. An afternoon spent strolling by the lake sounds downright lovely.
The Room Of Requirement
The room of requirement was first introduced to fans in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, appearing only to those in need of its services. Redditor YuletideToaster says, “I would be hanging out in the room of requirement. I would love to look through piles of old stuff all day.”
The Room of Requirement provided whatever could be of service to those in need. Hidden away within Hogwarts, the room will be available to explore in depth when the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy video game is released early in 2023. This makes it one of the few places that fans can actually hang out in within the wizarding world.
The Greenhouses
Perhaps easily overlooked given Hogwarts' more tantalizing prospects, the greenhouses are a major source of entertainment for some fans. Redditor Tod_Lapraik sums this up with “The Greenhouses immediately came to mind for me to see all the magical plants…”
There are without a doubt a seemingly endless variety of plants to be found in the Hogwarts greenhouses. That being said, it does take a certain amount of knowledge to avoid some potentially lethal results. Given all the mysterious aspects of the wizarding world, its flora offers an endless array of options, making the greenhouse a tricky but interesting option.
The Potions Classroom
Potions have proven themselves to be indispensable at times throughout the Harry Potter franchise, so it's not surprising that fans would like to hang out in one of the Potions' classrooms. Redditor LadyLaura13 agrees saying, “The potions classroom, after classes are done for the day. I love experimenting, and creating concoctions!”
There’s no shortage of opportunity to be had in the potions classroom, but it does take a skilled witch or wizard to make the best of what’s on offer. Potterheads have seen more than a few attempts at particular potions go awry throughout the books and films, but for those who feel they could handle the challenges of brewing a good potion, this is the place to be.
Hogsmeade
Though not quite a part of Hogwarts, the village of Hogsmeade earns its place among the best Hogwarts hangouts because technically, someone can reach it via Hogwarts. It’s a perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon, as Redditor FireFromThaumaturgy confirms, saying, “I’ll be at hogsmeade getting crunk with the boys by a warm hearth.”
Hogsmeade earns plenty of mention among the Redditors and deservedly so. When fans were able to get their first glimpse of the village in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, it immediately became clear that it was worthy of further exploration since it has an array of different and unique stores. Hogsmeade just seemed like a place that would welcome anyone and everyone.
The Kitchens
The Hogwarts kitchens have always held a certain degree of mystery, mainly because no one really gets a glimpse of them; usually, the food just that magically appears on the tables in the Great Hall. That's why Redditor Matseye1r would like to see more of it since this where the “food is at.”
A rare visit to the kitchen is paid by Harry in the franchise’s fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
