In the Harry Potter series, friendship is one of the biggest themes. The friendships between Harry, Ron, and Hermione are a core part of the series, and the most important relationships in many ways. While the trio might get talked about the most when it comes to friendship, there are also many other important friendships throughout the series. Even Harry, Ron, and Hermione have other close friendships that are quite endearing.

Here are the ten best friendships from the series that aren’t the golden trio.

Severus Snape And Lily Potter

This entry is definitely the most controversial on this list, and this is because their friendship isn’t exactly great all around. While they might have had an endearing friendship when they were children, the fact that Snape called her a slur, and then was creepily obsessed with her his whole life, is messed up. It’s no wonder that many fans despise their relationship, and don’t see their friendship as something good in any way.

Harry Potter And Dobby

Harry Potter starts out not really liking Dobby because Dobby spends most of Harry’s second year at Hogwarts trying to get him expelled or seriously injured. However, while Dobby’s actions are misguided, his intent is pure. Harry learns to understand Dobby and care for him, and even frees him from the abusive Malfoy family. Dobby always looked out for Harry going forward, and Harry cares about him, too. This is part of why it’s so devastating when Dobby dies.

Lavender Brown And Parvati Patil

While Lavender and Parvati might sometimes fall into the role of being mean girls, they do have a loyal friendship with each other. Pretty much from their first year, these two girls are always side-by-side. They are loyal friends throughout their entire time at Hogwarts, and they have one of the most consistent friendships in the entire series. While they might not get along that well with the trio, they do get along well with each other.

Neville Longbottom And Hermione Granger

While Hermione’s best friends might be Harry and Ron, she has quite a few other friends, too. She is a great friend to Neville in many ways, especially when they are younger.

Neville during his first few years at Hogwarts is very insecure and picked on by many people. Since he sometimes struggles in school, Hermione does her best to help him. It’s clear that she cares about him, and is a lot more compassionate toward him than many of the other students.

Dean Thomas And Seamus Finnigan

While Ron and Harry might be best friends, they aren’t the only pair of best friends between the Gryffindor boys of their year. Dean and Seamus were also best friends during their time at Hogwarts. While we don’t get to see much of their friendship, what we do see shows that they are loyal to one another, and spend a lot of time together. Given that Harry had so much going on, and there were so many wild things happening around him, it’s great to see other students in his year make lasting friendships and find support.

Sirius Black And Remus Lupin

While the friendships in the trio are talked about a lot in the Harry Potter series, the friendships between the Marauders are probably talked about the second most. Of the four members of the Marauders, there are a couple of sets of friendships that seem the strongest. Sirius and Remus are definitely quite close. They are good friends during their time at Hogwarts, and then they are able to become close friends again after Sirius escapes from Azkaban and Lupin learns that he is innocent.

Ginny Weasley And Hermione Granger

While Hermione is mostly shown hanging out with Harry and Ron because the story is told from Harry’s point of view, Hermione is also good friends with Ginny. The books mention this in passing several times, even if their friendship moments aren’t seen by Harry.

Hermione and Ginny spent a lot of time together during holidays and summers, as Hermione would share her room. It would likely have been a good outlet for her to have a close friend that’s another girl, and Hermione mentions Ginny telling her things about her love life. These two are definitely underrated friends that deserve more attention.

James Potter And Sirius Black

Sirius and Lupin were really good friends, but the pair most talked about among the Marauders is James and Sirius. These two were undoubtedly best friends, and they got up to a lot of trouble together. They were extremely loyal to one another, and are definitely the ringleaders of the group. As they were both rather charismatic and attractive in their own ways, they made for quite the pair. In many ways, they got up to as much trouble as Fred and George.

Fred And George And Lee Jordan

While Fred and Geroge were a dynamic duo on their own seeing as they were twins, they also had a best friend throughout the years at school. They were often seen with Lee Jordan. These three would get up to a lot of pranks and jokes together. While their twin bond was always the strongest, Lee Jordan was definitely a good friend and a part of many of their shenanigans over the years.

Harry Potter And Luna Lovegood

Ron and Hermione are both great friends to Harry, but they aren’t his only friends. Of Harry’s other friends over the years, Luna is undoubtedly the most loyal and committed. Luna cares a lot for Harry, and often offers him support and help. She clearly values her friendship with him, and her other close friends dearly, as evidenced by the friendship mural she made in her bedroom. The friendship between Harry and Luna is one of mutual understanding, and it’s extremely endearing.
