The Harry Potter series might be an epic fantasy with a lot of mystery elements, but romantic relationships play a large role, too. In fact, the crushes that certain characters have on one another, like Ron and Hermione, impact many of their decisions and how they act throughout the series. And, even the adult characters have significant romantic relationships that play a part in the plot, such as the love triangle with James, Lily, and Snape.

While viewers are going to have their individual favorite couples, there are a handful of canon romantic relationships that are the best for one reason or another. These couples are either popular with fans or they work well together, even if the characters themselves aren’t very likable. These are their most memorable moments.

Petunia And Vernon Dursley: Spoiling Dudley Together

There’s no denying that Petunia and Vernon are rather awful people, and the way they treat Harry is appalling. But the only reason why most fans would say they are one of the more memorable couples in the series is because they are both so nasty. They seem to bond over being rather miserable and judgemental people. While it might not be just one particular scene, the thing that really seems to hold them together is the way that they spoiled Dudley.

Cho Chang And Cedric Diggory: Looking Perfect At The Yule Ball

While Harry might have started having a crush on Cho in his third year, and they briefly date eventually, Cho and Cedric seem like a better match. Some fans might prefer Harry and Cho together instead of Cho and Cedric, but they didn’t seem to have all that much in common nor be on the same emotional level. Cho and Cedric did seem to get along, and they definitely looked like quite the beautiful pair when they went to the Yule Ball together.

Hagrid And Madame Maxime: Hagrid Dressing Up To Impress Her

Hagrid and Madame Maxime don’t last very long as a couple, but they do end up remaining friends. They do seem to work together better as friends than as lovers, but there is something rather endearing about the crush Hagrid had on her when he met her. The fact that he even took the time and effort to try to fix his hair and get dressed up, when he’s usually not like that at all, was very cute.

Nymphadora Tonks And Remus Lupin: Sacrificing Themselves At The Battle Of Hogwarts

Unfortunately, some of the most iconic moments between couples in the Harry Potter series aren’t positive or upbeat. Tonks and Lupin’s relationship seems rather shrouded in a lot of struggle from the start. Lupin doesn’t want Tonks to be with him because he’s a werewolf, and he almost left Tonks when he first finds out she’s pregnant and he began to worry about fatherhood.

However, the most memorable moment involving these two is also the most heartbreaking one. They both end up killed at the Battle of Hogwarts leaving their baby, Teddy, orphaned. It was a rather tragic full circle moment hearkening back to when Harry was orphaned as a baby.

George Weasley And Angelina Johnson: Naming Their Son After Fred

Angelina Johnson in the Harry Potter series

While George and Angelina aren’t shown very much in the actual film series, they do seem to make a good couple. Strangely enough, the moment most people think of between them is actually between Fred and Angelina as Fred asks her to the Yule Ball. However, in later life, George and Angelina start dating, and they end up married. They have two children, and they even name their son after Fred.

Fleur Delacour And Bill Weasley: Fleur Proclaiming Her Husband

While the Weasley family wasn’t that excited about Fleur being with Bill at first, they soon realized they had misjudged her unfairly. After Bill is attacked by Fenrir Greyback and left with a severe scar on his face, Fleur shows that she isn’t with Bill for shallow reasons. In a conversation with Molly, she tells her that she loves her husband much and believes he is extremely brave. It was also a great moment for fans as it finally saw Molly and Fleur try and repair their relationship.

James And Lily Potter: Sacrificing Themselves To Save Their Son

James and Lily are another tragic couple in the series, and fans mostly see flashback scenes of them at Hogwarts when they don’t actually get along well at all. Their relationship when they were dating and married is mostly a mystery to fans, and to Harry, except for a few fleeting insights.

Their most iconic and memorable moment is also a completely heart-wrenching one. It’s the scene that started it all. Both James and Lily did everything they could to protect their son from Voldemort, and, in the end, this sacrifice did save Harry’s life.

Arthur And Molly Weasley: When Arthur Revealed Molly’s Nickname

Arthur and Molly might actually be the best couple in the series because they have been together for years and seem to know each other extremely well. They have built a family and life together, and they care about one another a lot. While fans don’t see all that many scenes of them alone together, mostly just of them with their family, there is one extremely endearing one. This is the scene where Arthur calls Molly his secret nickname for her, Mollywobbles.

Harry Potter And Ginny Weasley: Ginny Giving Harry A Kiss Goodbye

While some fans loved this pairing and others didn’t as much, they did seem to get along rather well in the few scenes we see them together in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. However, it would have been nice to see them get more development as a couple. Because of this, their most memorable scene is actually another sad one. It’s when Ginny pulls Harry aside to give him a kiss before he goes away to find Horcruxes. Sadly, the movies didn't really portray the passion between these two that was described in the books.

Hermione Granger And Ron Weasley: Their First Kiss In The Chamber Of Secrets

Hermione and Ron have a rather up and down relationship even as friends, and in some ways, they might not seem the most suited to one another. But, it’s clear that they have had some level of feelings for one another all along, but this doesn’t become official until the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. When Ron finally starts to care about the house-elves, Hermione really falls for him and kisses him. Some believe this is the moment that changed everything for fans.
