These cast members have brought joy to fans of Harry Potter all around the world, no matter what Hogwarts house they may belong to. Some of these stars have even been sorted into houses different from their characters.

Rupert Grint

Rupert Grint has played best friend Ron Weasley in every Harry Potter movie, completing the series’ Golden Trio alongside Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter and Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger. Whilst Ron was sorted into Gryffindor for his bravery, Grint learned that he belonged to Hufflepuff house after taking the Wizarding World Hogwarts Quiz for the first time in 2016 with a few of his other cast mates.

The actor tells viewers that he had not expected to be a Hufflepuff, but that he “felt pretty good” about his results. As Hufflepuffs are most known for their loyalty and kindness, it is safe to say that Grint would make an excellent best friend in real life as well.

Evanna Lynch

Luna Lovegood was introduced to the Harry Potter series in the fifth installment entitled Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Evanna Lynch, who was a huge Harry Potter fan herself, was cast and truly bought Luna to life on the big screen. In the franchise, Luna is a proud Ravenclaw due to her often overlooked intelligence and creativity that is demonstrated over the eight movies.

Lynch, on the otherhand, was not sorted into the house of the witty. In 2016, a few Harry Potter stars were filmed taking the official Wizarding World Hogwarts Sorting Quiz and it was shown that Lynch is actually a Gryffindor. She said she was “thrilled, but also not surprised” to be sorted into this house and seemed rather excited and proud to be a Gryffindor.

Matthew Lewis

Since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone premiered in 2001, Neville Longbottom has been portrayed by actor Matthew Lewis. Even with his moments of timidness, Neville was sorted into Gryffindor as a child as eventually goes on to prove that he is courageous enough to fight and stick up for others during times of need.

After taking the Wizarding World Hogwarts Sorting Quiz, Lewis discovered that he actually belonged in Hufflepuff and was quite excited about it. “I am really happy with Hufflepuff,” he told those watching, which is fair as Hufflepuffs are typically regarded as the most considerate and just house of the four. It is ironic for Lewis to be sorted into this house, as many fans believe Neville should have been sorted into Hufflepuff for these same personality traits.

James Phelps

Twin brothers James and Oliver Phelps portrayed Fred and George, respectively, for all eight Harry Potter films. Like every Weasley that came before and after them, the twins were proud members of Gryffindor house and while Oliver was actually sorted into Gryffindor, James was not. In a Q&A Interview with Wizarding World, the twins shared their Hogwarts houses and James told the world he is a Hufflepuff at heart.

He said that his results were absolutely cool, especially due to the fact he had “a badger living under [his] shed,” which is the house’s mascot. It’s almost as if James was undoubtedly meant to be sorted into Hufflepuff.

Tom Felton

After becoming a fan-favorite on TikTok, Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton decided to take the Wizarding World Hogwarts Sorting Quiz in May 2020. Draco is arguably one of the most known Slytherins from the Harry Potter films since he appears in several of Harry’s classes and the rivals often find themselves arguing or clashing in the Hogwarts hallways.

Though his cunningness and determination landed Draco into Slytherin, Felton’s hard work and generosity landed him in Hufflepuff. He posted the results of the sorting quiz on his Instagram with the caption “a sad day… on so many levels,” making it clear that this was not the house he wanted to be in after all.

Tom Felton… Again

Tom Felton tried the Wizarding World Hogwarts Quiz for a second time in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The green and silver scarf around his neck coupled with the banner hanging from his book shelf made it apparent that Felton hoped to get sorted into Slytherin, the same house as his character Draco Malfoy.

The actor posted a video to his Instagram in October 2021 of him receiving his results and being visibly distraught after learning he was sorted into Gryffindor, a forced thumbs up and fake sobs highlighting his devastation. Many may argue that Slytherins and Gryffindors are nearly the same in personality, so at least Felton got closer to what he wanted this time around. It seems that no matter what he does or how many times he takes the test, Felton just can’t be sorted into Slytherin with his Harry Potter counterpart.

Josh Herdman

Actor Josh Herdman shared the screen with Tom Felton throughout the Harry Potter franchise as one of Draco’s right-hand men, Gregory Goyle. Goyle was placed into Slytherin during his first year at Hogwarts because of his prideful and confident personality. Thanks to the Daniel Jacob Radcliffe fan page on Facebook, fans were able to learn that while he wished he could say he was sorted into Slytherin as well, Herdman is surprisingly a Gryffindor member at his core.

Herdman admitted that he “might take [the test] again and hopefully get Slytherin,” in this Q&A, hinting that there may be a shred of Slytherin in him as those in that house will do whatever it takes in order to get what they want.
