The Marvel Cinematic Universe has yet to use Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man franchise, but Tom Holland and Zendaya are right that Timothée Chalamet should play him. Marvel Studios and Sony made the conscious decision when rebooting Spider-Man in the MCU to do things differently than past movie iterations. Tom Holland's Peter Parker has remained a high schooler throughout his story so far, got a new best friend in Ned Leeds, dates a reimagined Mary Jane in Michelle, and fought villains who previously weren't used. Spider-Man: No Way Home changes that last approach in a major way, as Holland will fight villains from previous Spider-Man franchises.

With the MCU just now putting Spider-Man into contact with some of his biggest villains, the door is open for other major characters to join the story, such as Harry Osborn. He's traditionally Peter Parker's best friend in the comics prior to becoming a villain in his own right. Sony used him in both of their previous Spider-Man franchises, as James Franco played Harry opposite Tobey Maguire and Dane DeHaan took the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since the MCU hasn't introduced him yet, there has been a growing interest in seeing a new take on Harry Osborn. This has meant plenty of fan-casts over the years to try and find the perfect actor to play him.

Timothée Chalamet has been one of the most popular suggestions to play the MCU's Harry Osborn. During the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland and Zendaya both supported this idea. While there are plenty of actors who could do a great job playing Harry, the No Way Home stars are correct that Chalamet would be a uniquely good casting decision. Holland suggested the best way to integrate Harry into Spider-Man's story would be to make him a friend at first and then slowly turn him into a villain. This type of trajectory for Harry Osborn in the MCU would require the actor to portray him as nice and charming while also making him a somewhat tragic character. Timothée Chalamet's filmography shows that he has the range to handle all aspects of Harry's personality.

Casting Timothée Chalamet as Harry Osborn would also be a huge move for the MCU and the Spider-Man franchise. He's already been nominated for an Oscar, but Chalamet is now on the verge of becoming a leading box office actor. Dune's success elevated his presence as a leading movie star, and his light should only shine brighter after Dune: Part Two and Wonka. Harry Osborn needs to be played by someone who can stand toe-to-toe with Tom Holland, and Chalamet can certainly do that. And when the time comes for Harry Osborn to be Peter's rival or villain, there is no doubt that he'd pull off either side of Harry.

Although the campaign to get Timothée Chalamet in the MCU and the same franchise as Tom Holland and Zendaya is primarily driven by audiences, it could have some appeal to the rising movie star too. He's primarily played troubled young men or heroes and has so far not taken a villain role. Harry Osborn could be Chalamet's chance to have fun with his mutuals making a big blockbuster and flex his acting chops with a villainous turn. Those past roles, though, are exactly what could make audiences empathize with Harry more as he becomes a villain.

There are currently no confirmed plans for Harry Osborn in the MCU, but hopefully, Tom Holland and Zendaya get their wish that Timothée Chalamet plays him when the time comes. This could happen as soon as the new Spider-Man trilogy Marvel and Sony are developing. After all, Holland's Spider-Man will encounter Norman Osborn presumably for the first time in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Once he takes down Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Peter could seek out the MCU's version of Norman and encounter Timothée Chalamet's Harry Osborn that way.
