Harrison Ford has joined Illumination's The Secret Life Of Pets 2 for his first-ever role in an animated feature. Though he's well into his seventies now, Ford shows no signs of slowing down as an actor. In fact, Ford treated audiences to arguably his best performance in years in 2017's Blade Runner 2049, where he reprised the role of Rick Deckard, which he originated in 1982's Blade Runner.

Of course, Ford also gave a memorable performance as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And as a special bonus, he finally got that Solo death scene he had yearned to play since unsuccessfully asking George Lucas to kill him off in Return of the Jedi. Soon, Ford will revisit another of his famous roles, returning for a fifth go-around as Indiana Jones, with Steven Spielberg of course returning to direct (but no Shia LaBeouf).

While Ford waits for Indiana Jones 5 to crank up, the actor has lined up a role that should be a lot less taxing on his body. As reported by Deadline, Ford will give a voice performance in the animated sequel The Secret Life of Pets 2. This marks Ford's first-ever role in an animated feature film. In addition to Ford, Tiffany Haddish, Patton Oswalt, Nick Kroll, and Pete Holmes have also joined the line-up. Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, and Bobby Moynihan return from the original.

The first Secret Life of Pets, released in 2016, went on to gross a massive $875 million at the worldwide box office. The movie followed a terrier named Max whose pampered life becomes disrupted when his owner brings home a stray. Louis C.K. voiced the lead role of Max in the original film, but after his sexual assault controversy, the actor has been dropped from the sequel. Reports say Patton Oswalt will take over the role of Max for the new film (making him the Christopher Plummer of animation).

There's no word yet on Ford's character in the film, but if Illumination has any sense, they'll make him play a grouchy old dog. Given Ford's long career, it's actually hard to believe this is the first time he's ever done voice work in an animated feature. Ford's only significant prior experience in animation came long, long ago when he voiced Han Solo for the cartoon segment of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. But of course, Ford has long-since forgotten what that experience was like (as has everyone else involved in that debacle), so working in animation again will seem entirely new to him.
