Apple TV+ just gave the green light to an animated Harriet the Spy series starring Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady Bird). Harriet the Spy was initially a children's book series written by Louise Fitzhugh in 1964. The first coming of age story followed Harriet as she solved the most important case of her life: finding her precious notebook. The success of Harriet the Spy inspired the sequels Harriet Spies Again; Harriet the Spy, Double Agent; and The Long Secret. 30 years later, Nickelodeon made an adorable live-action Harriet the Spy movie starring Michelle Trachtenberg.

Now Harriet the Spy is being revamped once again, as reported by Slashfilm. However, this time it will be as an animated TV series on Apple TV+. In addition to Feldstein, who will voice Harriet, Jane Lynch joins the cast as Harriet's nanny. Meanwhile, Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) will play Marion Hawthorne, a classmate of Harriet's who's also the leader of the popular girls. The show will be set in the 1960s like the original series. However, the jury is still out on whether the new show will be a retelling of the books or focus on new stories.

The new Harriet the Spy series will be executive produced by Will McRobb, one of the co-creators behind Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete. The show will hopefully introduce a whole new generation to Harriet. However, fans of the original series or Nickelodeon movie should enjoy the nostalgia of seeing one of their favorite characters again, especially in animated form.
