Does it even need to be said that A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas will easily be the raunchiest film to hit respectable theaters this year? Considering what franchise screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg got away with in the last feature-length installment (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay), one could only wonder how they would top themselves the third time around.
Judging by the newly-released Harold & Kumar 3D red band trailer, the answer is: by skewering Christmas in such an outrageous fashion that even South Park's take on the holiday seems almost polite, by comparison.
The previously-released regular Harold & Kumar 3D trailer mostly focused on teasing the film's intentionally gimmicky and humorously in-your-face 3D antics - which looks to include flaming Christmas trees, broken teeth, ping pong balls, and Neil Patrick Harris' candy cane... cane. Now, however, you can get an early taste of all the R-Rated crude jokes, comical violence, foul language, and more that the green band preview only hinted at.
In case you actually care about the story, here is the official synopsis for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas:
After years of growing apart, Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar's door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold's house ends with the "high grade" contents—and Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree— going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree almost blows Christmas Eve sky high.
Now check out the film's red band trailer - and remember, this is definitely NSFW (and not for those who are easily offended):
If you can conceive of a lewd or controversial gag involving Christmas, chances are good it popped up in this red band preview. Whether it's N.P.H. getting kicked out of a pimped-out Heaven for being a better ladies man than Jesus - or a Rankin/Bass-inspired claymation version of Kumar getting... aroused - Harold & Kumar 3D aims to leave moviegoers in stitches like no other comedy due to hit theaters before the end of 2011.
If you were a fan of the previous Harold & Kumar flicks, then chances are good you'll be laughing something fierce throughout this one. If you couldn't stand the previous movies' brand of gross-out humor and extreme politically-incorrect jokes... well, why on Earth would you even bother to acknowledge that this third installment exists?
A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas arrives in 2D and (you guessed it) 3D theaters around the U.S. on November 4th, 2011.
