Harley Quinn season 3 will finally premiere on HBO Max later this summer. The animated black comedy series debuted on the now-defunct streaming service DC Universe in November 2019, with season 2 being released back in April 2020. The show stars Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco in the titular role of Harley Quinn, and has a star-powered cast that includes Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Jason Alexander, and Giancarlo Esposito. Harley Quinn follows the the beloved Gotham villain as she forms her own crew of bad guys after being continuously rejected from the Legion of Doom.

Harley Quinn season 2 ended with Harley and her best friend, Poison Ivy, confessing their feelings for one another and sharing a kiss after escaping Commissioner Gordon's clutches. Since that rollicking conclusion, the wait for season 3 has stretched on a bit longer than expected, though it hasn't been without teases for what's ahead. Released back in October 2021, a sizzle reel for Harley Quinn season 3 showed Harley and Ivy's relationship blossoming, Gordon on a rampage to bring the two villains to justice, and an awkward reunion between Ivy and her ex-fiancé, Kite Man.

In a recent tweet, Harley Quinn has confirmed that season 3 will be released this summer on HBO Max. An official date hasn't been named just yet, but a late July or early August timeframe likely isn't out of the question. The news came with a fresh image from Harley Quinn that fittingly shows Harley and Ivy relaxing on a beach. It looks like their new relationship is off to a smooth start. In August 2020, DC Chief Content Officer Jim Lee announced that all DC Universe original shows would be migrating to HBO Max. Harley Quinn season 3 will be debuting much later than expected, as audiences were anticipating a release sometime in late 2021 or early 2022. It's now been two years since Harley Quinn last aired new episodes, which has only fueled demand for more. With a release finally confirmed, however, Harley Quinn can finally make its proper HBO Max debut.

In a sense, Harley Quinn season 3 is at a minor disadvantage. Beyond the long wait between seasons, the series is now shifting streaming services. Though streaming is now among the most popular ways to watch television, there is also a risk of alienating existing viewers who do not have access to, or do not want access to, certain streaming platforms. It remains to be seen just how well Harley Quinn will fare in its new home. Still, with a loyal and dedicated fanbase who have been waiting years for season 3 to finally be released, Harley Quinn can hopefully make a triumphant return later this summer.
