Warning: contains spoilers for HBO Max's Harley Quinn

DC Comics is picking up where season two of HBO Max's Harley Quinn: The Animated Series left off, right after Poison Ivy confesses her feelings for Harley as they leave the chaos of Ives' canceled wedding behind them. Fans eagerly anticipating the long-awaited season three of Harley Quinn may want to look to the world of comic books to see where the series is taking Harley and Ivy.

Harley and Ivy had always been close throughout seasons one and two of Harley Quinn, but their relationship took a drastic leap into romantic territory that put fans in a frenzy. But it couldn't have come at a worse time. Ivy was already engaged to Kite Man and she wanted to stay loyal to him despite her obvious attraction to Harley. This led to a major falling out between the two villains that was only rectified after Harley learned that Jim Gordon planned on crashing the wedding to help his future prospects when he eventually ran for mayor. While Harley arrived to save the day, Kite Man broke up with Poison Ivy when he realized she didn't truly love him, giving Harley the green light to come swooping in--and she certainly swooped. The two finally shared a kiss as they escaped from the burning embers of her wedding in Ives' Just Married car.

But DC Comics just proved that the road to their "Honeymoon" will be both literally and figuratively bumpy in Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour! #1 by writer Tee Franklin and artist Max Sarin. The first problem they must overcome is much more serious as Gordon immediately leads a group of cop cars right to the escaping love birds. As Harley tries to outmaneuver their pursuers, Ivey summons a large cluster of massive roots to serve as an offramp right on a portion of the highway that's lifted high off the ground. Harley quickly drives onto the new route, and when Gordon and his men try to do the same, Ivy recalls the roots, causing the cars (and Gordon) to fall to the ground below.

But Harley and Ivy's troubles are far from over. The other obstacle that the young couple now faces comes as a result of the emotional rollercoaster that Ivy just experienced with Kite Man. Although she loves Harley, Ivy did just break up with her fiancé and must sort through the trauma. Harley, of course, wants to know everything on her lover's mind, but pushing Ivy could prove to be problematic, as Harley's alter ego Dr. Harleen Quinzel reveals (in the car's rearview mirror). She can't push Ivy to open up no matter how much she may want her to, Harleen reveals during their internal therapy session, and if she continues to try and force it, Harley risks losing her. "Just be supportive. Let her know you're there for her," advises Harleen.

Even when Harley and Ivy reach their destination, it's clear that the two lovers are still far from the honeymoon stage of their relationship. They're not only villains on the run, but they have a lot of issues to sort through before Ivy can truly move on with Harley. Can Harley Quinn wait? Or will the years of abuse that she sustained from Joker seep into her psyche and cause irreparable harm to her relationship with Poison Ivy? Regardless, it's exciting that the story fans have been waiting for since season two of HBO Max's Harley Quinn series ended in June of last year is finally continuing.
