Warning! Preview pages for Dark Knights of Steel #5 ahead!

The relationship of perennial sweethearts Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy may be the only thing that can save the world from all out destruction. A preview for Dark Knights of Steel #5 features the Court of El’s jester, Harley, venturing out into the wildness to talk the lady of the forest into assisting the kingdom in its upcoming war. Ivy couldn’t care less for the affairs of man, but that doesn't stop her from giving Harley an interesting counteroffer.

Tom Taylor and Yasmine Putri’s popular fantasy series reinvents the DC Universe as a sword and sorcery epic adventure. Superman’s family leads a kingdom, but in the wake of King Jor-El’s murder, factions are forming and war looms on the horizon. While enemies plot the downfall of the kingdom, others attempt to save it by forging alliances with everyone they can.

A new preview for Dark Knights of Steel #5 begins with Prince Kal-El and his sister, Zala, grieving for their father. Meanwhile, Harley makes her way out to Hobb Forest to beseech its most notable resident for help. A bemused Ivy briefly captures Harley before letting her go so the two can discuss business. Quinn tells Ivy that the kingdom intends to burn Ivy’s forest unless she assists by allowing the woods to be used as a line of defense. Though she isn’t a fan of the El Kingdom, Ivy's compassion for Harley supersedes those feelings and she agrees to help on one condition: she wants Harley to join her in the forest.

One thing that Dark Knights of Steel does well is keep the characterizations of its heroes and villains when translating them into new fantasy roles. Aside from keeping Poison Ivy's general misanthropic attitude, her soft spot for Harley remains. Quinn seems to be just as fond of Ivy. She doesn't fear when tangled up in vines and talks to Ivy candidly. The two's close relationship appears to be on as solid footing as fans would expect them to be. And yet, Harley appears to take pause at Ivy's offer.

Harley takes her role in the kingdom seriously, using her position to speak truth to power. But historically, Ivy has always had to give Harley a push in leaving her comfort zone. The tender moment between the two shows that they have discussed Quinn abandoning her duties and joining Ivy, but for some reason, Harley hasn't taken the plunge yet. However, by taking Ivy up on her offer, Harley could secure a major advantage for the El Kingdom in the coming war and potentially bring peace to the land.

While Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn discuss their relationship further, dire days continue to loom in Dark Knights of Steel, available March 1, 2022.
