Three new young adult graphic novels are coming from DC Comics featuring Harley Quinn, Lois Lane & Static! The novels hit shelves in Spring 2023 and will become the newest additions to DC’s popular Young Adult line.

DC’s graphic novels have recently been gaining steam as the company’s catalog expands. The DC Graphic Novels for Young Adults imprint, which was initially launched as DC Ink in 2019 and rebranded to its current name in 2020, has released 27 graphic novels to date. These novels, along with DC Comics’ online WEBTOONs, aim to introduce comic book characters to a younger audience by enlisting accomplished young adult authors to write standalone graphic novels.

Now, DC Comics has announced three new additions to their impressive range of graphic novels. Writer Sarah Kuhn teams up with artist Arielle Jovellanos in Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story, where they’ll tell the story of a young Lois Lane, an “ambitious small-town girl tackling summer in the big city.” The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley, a “Jekyll and Hyde story,” features New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr and renowned artist Jenn St-Onge. Finally, Static makes his graphic novel debut in Static: Up All Night, a “madcap story of one night” written by two-time Edgar Award finalist Lamar Giles with art by Eisner Award-winning Paris Alleyne.

Lois Lane's new YA Book, Taking Over
Harley Quinn's new YA Book, the Strange Case
DC YA book, Static Shock Up All Night

Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story is DC’s first graphic novel to take an in-depth look at Lois Lane, one of DC’s most recognizable characters. Although she’s unfortunately often reduced to Superman’s primary love interest, this novel takes her individual character to the next level and tells a thrilling tale of scandals - both exposed by Lois and involving Lois. Luckily Lois Lane has risen to prominence over in DC's main universe, so it makes sense for her to get her own graphic novel. Additionally, Harley Quinn gets her first graphic novel since 2019 in The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley. DC continues to capitalize on her immense popularity, and the novel offers a closer look into the inherent contrast of Harleen Quinzel and Harley Quinn. Static’s first graphic novel appearance, which promises to be a wild romp of a story, features appearances of characters from both the Dakotaverse and the acclaimed Static Shock animated series. Much like Lois, Static and other Milestone heroes' return to prominence in DC Comics means it was only a matter of time before he got his own YA Adventure.

Each upcoming title boasts an all-star lineup of writers and artists, so this spring is sure to be memorable for fans of DC Comics’ Young Adult graphic novel line, as well as for fans of Harley Quinn, Lois Lane, and Static.
