While Harley Quinn is known for her irreverent wit and flippant attitude even in the most dire of circumstances in DC Comics, her most R-rated nickname is too wild for the movies, even by her standards. Harleen Quinzel AKA Harley Quinn was first introduced as a villain to Batman and a close ally of the Joker. After she broke ties with the Clown Prince of Crime, Harley started on her own journey from villain to antihero, and now to a borderline superhero. However, Harley Quinn has never lost the chaotic element that makes her Harley Quinn, but with this particular nickname, she may have taken things a bit too far.
In Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay #12 by Jeff Parker and Matthew Dow Smith, Amanda Waller has pitted her Suicide Squad against the supernatural in an effort to save herself from the wrath of the Spectre. Waller has sent them to retrieve an artifact known as the Amaurex Key which has the power to keep one’s immortal soul out of hell no matter how bad they were in life. After the Spectre revealed himself to be on Waller’s tail for the many atrocious crimes she’s committed, Waller became desperate to retrieve the key and save her soul.
During the final battle of this issue, Harley Quinn introduces every member of the Suicide Squad to their otherworldly foes. During this introduction, she gives herself a new nickname that is way more crass than usual. Haley Quinn says she is, “yours truly, Insane Clown P*ssy.” While Harley Quinn is prevalent in the R-rated landscape of live action movies, the term which she uses to describe herself likely wouldn’t make the cut even in films like The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) as even this graphic mini-series opted to censor the nickname.
Arguably the weirdest aspect of this nickname is the reference Harley Quinn makes with it. "Insane Clown P*ssy" is a reference to the band, Insane Clown Posse. If a band like that were to exist in the DC Universe, it wouldn't be surprising if it was linked to the Joker in some form, as he has largely cornered the market on anything clown-related in DC Comics. However, Harley Quinn has been known to break the fourth wall from time-to-time, so this reference may be purely for the benefit of the reader while anyone who is listening to her in the comic just has no idea what she’s talking about.
Despite the reference she made with the nickname, it seems unlikely that it will ever be spoken aloud in any of Harley Quinn’s movies. “Insane Clown P*ssy” definitely pushes the boundaries as the character has been known to do, but it might be just a little too much even for a future R-rated Harley Quinn film.
