DC VS Vampires is spawning two new one-shots as Harley Quinn and Damian Wayne are joining the Justice League’s war against the vampire invasion in DC VS Vampires: Killers #1 and Hunters #1. The popular premise sees the fall of heroes as they morph into monsters, and turn into villains.
Previously, the limited series DC VS Vampires introduced fans to a version of the DC Universe in which the Justice League fought a vampire invasion. Some heroes including Green Lantern and Wonder Woman have succumbed to the undead’s attack, joining their legion. The grand scale of the premise leaves a lot unresolved in the DC Universe, as readers are likely to wonder where other characters who haven’t been seen are during the battle for mankind. The creative team of James Tynion IV, Matthew Rosenberg, and Otto Schmidt have left a lot of room for world-building that even their 12-issue run won’t have time to explore. However, a new one-shot is filling in the gaps and expanding the storyline with other heroes and villains.
In the upcoming one-shot DC VS Vampires: Killers #1, it’s revealed that Harley Quinn is taking control of the criminal underworld in the midst of the vampire invasion. On the released cover illustrated by Hicham Habchi, Harley holds a crossbow along with a baseball bat, manically smiling at the thought of what she’s about to do to the vampire army coming for her. The one-shot will be written by Matthew Rosenberg with art by Mike Bowden and variant covers from Brett Booth and Jonathan Glapion. DC VS Vampires: Killers #1 is set to release on June 28.

Meanwhile, Damian Wayne is taking the fight into his own hands in DC VS Vampires: Hunters #1, set to release on May 24. As Harley is becoming a vampire slayer, the son of Batman is becoming a vampire hunter. The one-shot will also be written by Rosenberg, and features art by Neil Googe, with a cover by Jonboy Meyers, and a variant by Mico Suayan.
Harley and Damian’s stories could easily bleed into one another if they are set in Gotham City. The close release dates could hint at a connection between the two announced one-shots. Now that Damian is without Batman and the rest of his superhero friends, he might have to make a few compromises and team up with Harley Quinn. The Joker had been teased to be a vampire at this point in time, prompting a partnership between the unlikely vampire hunter and vampire slayer.
